Charleston, SC (WLTX) – Funeral plans have been set for Clementa Pinckney, the South Carolina state senator and pastor who was murdered Wednesday during the church shooting in Charleston.
Pinckney will be laid to rest Friday at St. James AME Church in Marion, South Carolina. Prior to the burial, however, there will be several days to honor the lawmaker and spiritual leader.
On Wednesday, Pinckney’s body will lie in state from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Capitol rotunda of the South Carolina State House in Columbia. Pinckney, who was 41-years-old, served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1997 to 2000 before he was elected to the Senate in 2001.
On Thursday, a service will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. John AME Church in Ridgeland. From 6-8 p.m. that same day, there will be a ceremony at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, the house of worship that he led for five years, and the site of this week’s tragedy. That event is scheduled to take place from 6-8 p.m.
On Friday, there will be a larger service at TD Arena at the College of Charleston at 11 a.m., the day before he will be buried. TD Arena is the same venue that hosted a prayer vigil Friday night.
