Madison (and Milwaukee), January 12: Save The Mounds Rally – State Capital Urgent Need!

http://savethemounds.com/

Ogichidaa Mawansomag will be standing with Tribal Leaders, Elders and others to protect our Cultural Resources and Mounds from a proposed bill which will allow current and future protected sites to be disturbed and excavated.

This not only affects our local sites, but STATE WIDE. If successful, the repercussions would surely spread to other states.

Once again, we are calling for staffs, voices, hand drums and signs for a peaceful gathering to show our lawmakers they can not desecrate our sites and remove our People from the ground they rest in. Please make every effort to be a part of this large gathering…….. More information to be posted by the hosts shortly.

Shared Space: The Mounds At Our Feet (Maada’ookiidaa Minowakiing… or “Let us share in Milwaukee”)
We invite you to participate in a Native American Mound learning action in Milwaukee on Tuesday, January 12, at sunset. This action is brought to you by Overpass Light Brigade, local educators and land allies, and is coordinated to follow a large rally in Madison on that same day. This event is being organized in response to proposed legislation that allows for sacred Native American mounds sites to be excavated if they lie in the path of another project.

We will meet at an ancient mound in Lake Park, and hear from UWM American Indian Studies faculty about burial mounds and effigy mounds. Though under threat, these important cultural and historical sites remain a powerful presence in our region. After a brief greeting and information sharing, we will hold a message for the earth as we Fight With Light.
