Milwaukee, March 22: Demand Community Input on Critical MPS Decisions!

MICAH Education Task Force wants members of congregations to attend the MPS school board meeting on March 22. Partners from Schools and Communities United are seeking our support in inviting parents, grandparents, teachers, and members of our faith communities to come out in force.

From our friends at MTEA: In June 2015 SAGE ended and Achievement Gap Reduction legislation took its place. AGR allows for three approaches to decrease the achievement gap one of which is maintenance of SAGE student/teacher ratios.

The Administration did not seek out the input of parents or classroom teachers and has created a proposal which guarantees SAGE student/teacher ratios in K5 only. The proposal also calls for the hiring of 62 new administrative positions and the elimination of over 100 classroom teacher positions.

Small class size is well supported in the research, especially for students living in poverty and African American students. Those benefits can be seen well into students’ K-12 experience.
This proposal is not student and family centered and is inconsistent with research and best practices.

We need to commit to turn out to the Board to testify on behalf of our children, families and what we know to be best practice for young students.
