Contact Congress To Demand Extension Of Unemployment Benefits

http://www.afge.org/

From a Jan. 9 American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) email:

Before Congress left town in December, they failed to extend the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program. That means that three days after Christmas, 1.3 million long-term unemployed Americans lost their unemploymentbenefits.

Without action from Congress, 2014 will be a disaster for the long-term unemployed. 1.3 million people, many of them veterans, will lose what little income they have.

Families will be evicted, houses foreclosed, and children will go cold and hungry in what’s shaping up to be one of the coldest winters on record. We cannot let our country leave behind so many people so easily.

Your voice can make a difference. Call your Senators now and tell them to extend EmergencyUnemployment Compensation, which will be voted on this week. Use your personal cell phone or home phone to dial 877-267-2485 and we’ll connect you within seconds.

Congress’ failure to act won’t make it any easier for the unemployed. In fact, it means money taken out of a still-fragile economy.

The Senate is voting this week on a bill to extend Emergency Unemployment Compensation. With your help, it can pass, so please call your Senators toll free right now using your personal cell phone or home phone at 877-267-2485.

It will only take a minute to urge your Senators to vote for an extension of Emergency UnemploymentCompensation, but that can make a lifetime of difference to those who need help right now.

Thank you for everything you do,

J. David Cox, Sr.
President, AFGE
