Stand With Striking CWA Workers in Waterford, NY

700 striking workers at Momentive in Waterford, NY have a message for Donald Trump and Steve Schwarzman: What about us? *

Trump promised to restore good jobs for millions of American workers, and picked Wall Street billionaire Stephen Schwarzman to Chair his “Strategic and Policy Forum” to help create jobs and boost economic growth.

But Schwarzman isn’t a champion for working people. He’s a Wall Street billionaire with a personal fortune of $11.1 billion and has a history of driving down workers’ standard of living at the companies he owns.

Momentive fell prey to Schwarzman’s Wall Street financial interests that destroyed good jobs, and cut pay and benefits. Apollo Global Management – the firm that owns the bulk of Momentive –  has also been one of the puppet masters driving down workers’ standard of living at Momentive for years. Workers are paying the price for their greed, but they are standing strong and making sacrifices on the picket line to protect their livelihoods.

Stand with the working families on strike at a rally on February 9th right outside Schwarzman’s posh Park Avenue apartment to demand good jobs in upstate New York.

Milwaukee Feb. 4-5: Milwaukee Art Build for Public Education

“We need teachers, we need books! We need the $ that Walker took!

Join us for a weekend of art in support of the fully funded public schools all our children derserve. We will be making banners, posters, and other pieces in preparation for the coming two-year Wisconsin state budget battle as we demand fair funding for Milwaukee Public School students.

Wisconsin Public Schools have seen a billion dollars cut since 2011, as well as a 2015 public takeover of MPS that was snuck into the last state budget and met fierce resistance and eventually was defeated. MPS students currently receive $1,000+ less per pupil in state funding when compared to their surrounding suburban colleagues. These massive disparities must be erased! We will make sure our state politicians hear and see us in support of fair funding for our students and with this art build we will be impossible to ignore.

Join us on Saturday or Sunday or both days to help us. We’re located in the upstairs of 735 E. Center St., which is above Company Brewing.

Saturday, February 4: 10am – 10pm
Sunday: February 5: 10am – 10pm

Overpass Light Brigade We joined tonight’s Milwaukee Trumps Hate rally and march. Donald Trump was scheduled to speak tonight in Milwaukee at Harley Davidson, but once the company realized the scope of the protests being planned during the trip they asked Trump not to come and instead went and met Trump in DC. Nice work MKE!

We celebrated a victory over Trump tonight! Trump and Harley Davidson made the wise decision to cancel a presidential appearance at the company’s Menominee Falls location because of impending protests.

Thank to the representatives from the Muslim, immigrant, and refugee communities. who spoke so eloquently on the stairs of the courthouse.

We hear and will continue to fight for our demands:

Betsy DeVos – President Donald Trump’s pick for secretary of education – has no experience with public schools. She’s never worked as an educator or in a public school in any capacity. She didn’t attend public schools, and did not send her children to public schools.

Instead, she has spent her career working to undermine public education. DeVos has lobbied and bankrolled failed schemes like vouchers, which take money away from public schools to fund private schools at taxpayers’ expense and with little to no accountability. By nominating Betsy DeVos, the incoming Trump administration is demonstrating it does not share our vision of public education and what works best for students, parents, and communities.

Tell your senators that we need an experienced, qualified secretary of education who actually wants to strengthen and improve all public schools. Contact your senators now, and tell them to vote NO on Betsy DeVos.
