AFSCME Local 526 statement in response to events in Charlottesville, Virginia on August 11-12, 2017
Whereas, the white supremacist march and rally in Charlottesville, Virginia on August 11-12, 2017 was a disgusting display of bigotry and hatred.
Whereas, AFSCME Local 526 mourns of the death of Heather Heyer, an activist who lost her life while supporting her ideals, and all victims of white supremacist terror.
Whereas, unions organize and empower working people across race, gender, and sexual orientation to make meaningful changes to create a more fair and equitable workplace and society.
Therefore, be it resolved that AFSCME Local 526 condemns the bigotry displayed in Charlottesville and reaffirms its commitment to joining working people and activists nationally in the fight to build a society free of class and national oppression and against bigotry and hate.
