Hosted by Black and Pink: Milwaukee
No More Cages! Write Letters to lgbtq+ people in prisons
Join Black and Pink Milwaukee as we meet at the UW-Milwaukee Student Union, in the common seating area, right outside the LGBT Resource Center, at 1 PM, to write letters of support to queer people held captive in prisons, to read and respond to their letters, and to work toward abolishing the violence of incarceration. We will also be joined by community members who are organizing to support prisoners on strike, and we will learn more about the campaign, and write letters of support to striking prisoners.
The work is important but the meet-up is in a casual, friendly setting, and all are welcome. Even if you have never written to anyone incarcerated before or done any kind of mail processing, but are interested in checking out what Black & Pink is all about, you’re invited to attend!
Black & Pink is an open family of LGBTQ+ prisoners and “free world” allies who support each other. We are outraged by the specific violence of the prison industrial complex against LGBTQ+ people, and respond through advocacy, education, direct service, and organizing.
Location is wheelchair accessible. Event is free.
