United States Seeks to Initiate Yet Another War in Middle East; This Time in Iran
A discussion by members of the Moratorium NOW! Coalition and the Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice (MECAWI) on the current crisis generated by the administration of United States President Donald Trump at its last meeting on June 24, 2019, concluded that it was warranted to issue the following statement in opposition to the current course towards war and occupation:
We condemn the hostile and provocative behavior on the part of the U.S. administration in regard to the threats of military attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Although Trump claims that he has for now reconsidered an aerial strike on the Tehran government, the intensification of the sanctions regime against the people of this sovereign state only stokes tensions which could easily lead to a full-blown war. We demand that all sanctions against Iran be lifted immediately and talks should resume on the salvaging of the JCOPA nuclear deal and the eventual normalization of relations.
It has been 40 years since the Iranian Revolution of 1979 where the masses of people rose up and overthrew the Washington-backed regime of the Shah. The will of the Iranian people must be respected in any diplomatic approach by the U.S.
In addition, we also oppose the recently-held “Prosperity to Peace” conference by the U.S. in Bahrain on the Palestinian question. All parties and political interests in Palestine rejected the gathering as another attempt to perpetuate the occupation of Palestine and to stifle the creation of a viable, contigious and genuinely independent Palestinian state.
The Trump administration’s bogus recognition of the holy city of Jeruslam as part of the Israeli state is a clear effort to destabilize the Palestinian people and fortify the Israeli occupation. We stand firmly with the struggles and aspirations of the Palestinian nation and its people.
Finally we categorically denounce the continued arms transfers from the U.S. and all other imperialists states to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The monarchy in Riyadh suppresses the basic democratic rights of its citizens and residents as a fundamental policy of its government.
Moreover, the Saudi Arabian and United Arab Emirates (UAE) fuedal regimes are leading on behalf of imperialism the brutal genocidal war against the people of Yemen, the poorest country in the region. Tens of thousands have died in the massive bombings and ground operations since March 2015. The war against Yemen has resulted in the most severe humanitarian crisis in the world today where cholera and other prevntable diseases are the direct outcome of Washington’s foreign policy. The Pentagon supplies the warplanes, ordnances, refuelling technology and targeting methodology that enables this onslaught against the masses in Yemen.
Overall we want to express our solidarity with the oppressed and struggling peoples of the region in their fight for liberation, social justice, peace and prosperity. Our plight in the U.S. as oppressed and working class people has worsened as a direct by-product of the imperialist militarism of the White House and Wall Street.
End U.S. Imperialist Influence in the Middle East!
Hands Off Iran!
Freedom for the Palestinian People!
Long Live the Struggle Against Imperialism!
