Juneteenth Day – Milwaukee
On behalf of the Northcott Neighborhood House and the Juneteenth Day Executive Committee, thank you to all who have supported Milwaukee’s very own Juneteenth Day Celebration for 49 years!
It is with great sadness we announce that the Juneteenth Day Parade and Street Festival scheduled for June 19 at Rose Park has been cancelled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. The Juneteenth Day Executive Committee determined that it is necessary to cancel plans in order to prevent risking the health of our community.
Instead, we are planning a Freedom Ball as part of our 49th Annual Juneteenth Day Celebration. It will take place later this year – sometime between October and December. This event will also kickoff major fundraising for the 50th Annual Juneteenth Day Celebration in 2021.
Although this year’s festival will not take place, the Juneteenth Day scholarships for local youth will still be given out. The criteria for scholarships are the same as in the past for Little Miss Juneteenth (ages 7-13) and Miss Juneteenth (ages 14-18). New this year will be eight scholarships for young men (ages 7-13 and ages 14-18). At the Freedom Ball, the young men will escort the Little Miss/Miss Juneteenth courts as all of them will be recognized and presented with scholarships.
The Juneteenth Day Scholarship information will be made available in the coming weeks via social media and our website, JuneteenthDayMilwaukee.com so stay tuned!
We are excited to mark 49 years of Juneteenth Day in Milwaukee and we are doubly excited to celebrate 50 years of history, heritage and culture in 2021.
Thank you for all your love and support!
