MILWAUKEE, WI AUGUST 22, 2020 — Organized in only a few days, an emergency action to save the U.S. Postal Service drew a large crowd at the Saint Paul Avenue location. A diverse array of union and community members set up an informational picket chanting “Hands Off the Post Office,” and then held a rally with many speakers. The Milwaukee event was a part of a national day of actions across the United States.
Many unions were represented including members and leaders from the AFT, the AFT, the AFGE, the APWU, the MTEA, SEIU, the Teamsters, the Steelworkers and more. Pamela Fendt, President of the Milwaukee Area Labor Council, spoke for the federation. Community organizations represented included El Pueblo MKE, the Green Party, the Latin American Solidarity Committee, Milwaukee Area Service and Hospitality Workers Organization, Peace Action Wisconsin, Souls to the Polls, Vets for Peace and the Wisconsin Bail Out The People Movement.
