In December 2020, organizers in Milwaukee successfully pressured the Common Council to vote NO to the COPS grant. The COPS grant would have allowed for 30 more MPD officers to partake in the oppressive federal initiative “Operation Legend,” which has unfairly targeted Black and Brown communities.
Unfortunately, Alderwoman Nikiya Dodd decided to put the COPS grant back on the table. On January 19, 2021, the common council will revisit the COPS grant. The community must take action to say NO to the COPS grant and YES to CPAC (Civilian Police Accountability Council). We have been telling them to decrease police funding and yet they are demanding more. We have been demanding community control of the police and they are firmly defending the system in place. They are accountable to us, the people they represent. Join us at Kops park to say NO to COPS!
