We are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the transition of Rev. Dr. Jo Ann Watson, a longtime friend and co-thinker with the Moratorium NOW! Coalition and other allied organizations. The city of Detroit has benefited immensely from her work over many years. We extend our profound sympathy, thoughts and prayers to Rev. Dr. Watson’s family and closest friends. Her ascendancy to the Detroit City Council was historic. During her tenure on the Council she consistently upheld the interests of African Americans and all oppressed and working people in Detroit. We must recognize that her inspirational work will live within the hearts and minds of the people.
