Why: Support Bad Ass Grandma Jill during her pre-trial zoom hearing for her upcoming jury trial in Clearwater County, where she took her third stand to protect our sacred water at the Mississippi Headwaters. She’s already paid a terrible price of chronic pain and permanent injury. Jill reported that during her hearing in April, she broke down watching the video of her arrest over and over and was greatly consoled by the presence of so many of you.
Witness her defense and account of suffering five severe “pain compliance” techniques for trying to stop the blatant rights violations perpetrated for Enbridge’s toxic tar sands oil pipeline 3.
Please hold defendants, and all of those impacted, with awareness and sensitivity. We know the violence wrought by courts and, together as a community, we work to prevent that violence from spreading.

As Enbridge has waltzed away from #Line3 for a repeat performance at #Line5 – leaving in their wake multiple broken aquifers with hundreds of millions of gallons of lost groundwater, 28+ frac-out spills of countless gallons of toxic drilling fluid, and the impending threat of a tar sands oil spill – who is left facing criminal charges in northern Minnesota? Sadly, it’s the water protectors who worked to prevent these tragedies.
Let’s continue supporting the last 50 defendants still facing hearings and trials across northern MN. They put themselves in harm’s way to defend sacred water and wild rice, treaties and climate, and now unjustly carry the burden of criminal charges, while Enbridge – still compounding their devastating damage – walks free.
Rivers have a right to life. Governments have a responsibility for the public trust. However, MN law enforcement, reimbursed millions of dollars by Enbridge, made over 1000 arrests of those peacefully representing the water’s rights during construction. Working with the MN Department of Natural Resources – which received over $2 million in reimbursements from Enbridge – the Canadian oil giant circumvented the intent of their water permits, directly violating Anishinaabe treaty rights and stewardship responsibilities.
