Some debate whether funding makes a difference in student achievement, but according to the American University School of Education, numerous studies have found that the benefits of increased funding can include improved test scores, higher graduation rates, and increased earnings for students in adulthood.
Another important study projected that by increasing per-pupil spending by 22 percent during low-income students’ years in school, states could completely eliminate the achievement gap between children from affluent and economically disadvantaged homes.
Ultimately, the budget proposed at the annual meeting continues to be an inadequate amount to ensure students are receiving an equitable, high-quality public school education. This is why it is imperative Kenosha community members attend and vote in the annual meeting in order to maximize the funding allowed by the state.
