The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) has warned of a real catastrophe facing more than 5,250 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails after the Israeli prison service (IPS) cut off electricity and water to their sections on Wednesday.
According to PPS, the Palestinian prisoners have been facing a number of punitive measures since the Palestinian resistance launched surprise attacks on the Israeli occupation last Saturday.
PPS pointed out that these measures were taken at the behest of the Israeli army commandership.
Other punitive measures include shutting down all the sections of the jails, taking food supplies and cooking utensils from all the cells, installing more cellular and Wi-Fi jammers in prisons, carrying out mass inter-prison transfers, isolating prisoners, raiding cells on a daily basis, and maltreating and assaulting prisoners, especially from Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
The prisoners have also been deprived of watching TV, receiving visits, going to infirmaries and walking in prison yards.
In a related context, Yedioth Ahronoth said that the decision to suspend power and water supplies to Palestinian prisoners was ordered by IPS commissioner Katy Perry.
