| PRESS RELEASE: RALLY DEMANDING IMMEDIATE AND UNCONDITIONAL OPENING OF EGYPTS RAFAH GATE: 100’s of DAILY TRUCKS MUST BE ALLOWED TO PASS What: Rally Demanding Immediate Opening of Egypt’s Rafah Gate Where: Egytian Mission, E 44th St & 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10017 When: Tuesday, October 21, 2023 at 4pm Who: Al-Awda NY: The Palestine Right to Return Coalition and Palestinian Assembly for Liberation Gaza typically receives at least 500 trucks loaded with food, fuel, and medical supplies daily. Since October 8th, however, less than 100 trucks in total have been granted entry through Egypt’s Rafah border gate due to the siege imposed by Israel. This number represents a fraction of the supplies needed by Palestinians in Gaza who are being bombarded relentlessly by the Zionist entity. The Zionist entity’s blockade of critical and life-giving humanitarian aid is only one facet of its genocidal warfare on Gaza. With a population of over 2.2 million people, of which half are children, the blockade constitutes an international war crime in and of its own. No trucks have been allowed through the northern gate, controlled by the Zionist entity, since October 8th. In continuing to bow to the directives of the explicitly genocidal Netanyahu government, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is complicit in this war crime. Hundreds of trucks loaded with aid have amassed at the Rafah Gate, yet Sisi continues to obey the Zionist regime’s orders and keeps the flow to breadcrumbs. As the indiscriminate airstrikes reach their third week, hospitals are attempting to function beyond their capacity. The lack of fuel and medical supplies as well as destroyed infrastructure condemn many Palestinians to death. Those who have survived bombings face operations without anesthesia. The targeted bombing of bakeries and depleting food storage are exacerbating the already dire conditions. The Zionist siege on Gaza is systematically choking the life out of Palestinians. We demand that Sisi open the Rafah Gate immediately and without restrictions. We demand that medical supplies, water, and fuel be included in the aid trucks, as fuel is needed for every aspect of life, from incubators and dialysis machines in the hospitals, to the bakeries which continue to serve the people. We demand that Sisi respects the lives of P alestinians in Gaza, ends his complicity with the Zionist regime, and opens the Rafah border gates.
