Prison Radio: Fight for Krystal Clark to get medical treatment!

Krystal Clark is fighting for her life inside Women’s Huron Valley Prison in Michigan. We get calls from her weekly detailing the inadequate medical treatment. Listen to her latest commentary. Doctors are downplaying the seriousness of her condition.

In the past two weeks, we have received email updates from her through JPay that describe heartbreaking experiences of being ignored, gaslit, and denied help by the healthcare team inside her prison.

Krystal says:

“Every day I’m in so much pain, I can barely open my eyes because of the consistent headaches and the pinching and throbbing in my head. I don’t know how they can treat someone like this… How could you go to sleep at night, after sitting here watching me suffer and not doing one thing about it? Knowing you’ve taken an oath to save lives and instead steadily taking lives. Every day is like Groundhog’s Day for me, feelings of torture and neglect, struggling to make it to the next day”

On 11/27, her doctor, instead of helping her when she went in to see him, denied her access to her critical medications.

We get regular reports from women at WHV who share their suffering from the lack of heat and hot water. It’s freezing in Michigan. These conditions are unacceptable and hazardous for the prisoners and the guards inside.

You can only hear these voices through Prison Radio: we are the only avenue Krystal and so many others have to share their stories and their truths with you.

We can show up for Krystal. She deserves to be treated with care and dignity, listened to, and supported in her attempts to access necessary health care. Demand that she be given access to medical treatment for her mold allergy. WHV must address its black mold infestation and provide heat and water to its inmates. Clean it up and shut it down!

Southern Workers Assembly: Ceasefire Now! Money for workers’ needs, not for bombing Palestine!

by Southern Workers Assembly | Nov 19, 2023 | News, Statement

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. noted that “war is the enemy of poor and working people,” and that the triple evils of racism, poverty, and militarism were to blame for the suffering of workers in the United States.

The Southern Workers Assembly stands in full solidarity with the people of Palestine, and joins workers around the world in expressing our outrage at the brutal, genocidal siege on Gaza by the Israeli government, with full economic, political, and military support from the United States. We call for the implementation of UN resolutions and established international law that defines crimes against humanity.

We additionally join the growing calls for an immediate ceasefire, an end to the occupation, and for an end to U.S. aid to Israel which has supported an apartheid regime in Palestine for decades.

Each year, the United States gives Israel around $4 billion of aid, mostly in the form of military armaments. The Biden administration recently requested an extra $14.3 billion in aid to Israel, and has been sending additional weapons that Israel is using to bomb hospitals, universities, refugee camps, and residential buildings. Since October 7, Israel has imposed a total blockade of Gaza, depriving the over 2 million people who live there — half of whom are children — access to food, water, medicine, and fuel, again with full backing from the U.S. government. While issuing orders for residents of Gaza to leave their homes, they’ve left people there with nowhere to safely evacuate to.

The U.S. aid to Israel, alongside the staggering $800 billion plus that the U.S. government spends on the military each year, should be used to fund workers’ needs, not wars abroad or to enrich the military industrial complex.

In recent weeks, millions around the world have taken to the streets to demand an end to the unrelenting bombing campaign and ground offensive by the Israeli government, which has killed more than 11,000 Palestinians at the time of this writing. Increasingly, workers are engaging in work stoppages and other job actions, heeding an October 16 call from the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions to:

  1. Refuse to build weapons destined for Israel.
  2. Refuse to transport weapons to Israel.
  3. Pass motions in their trade union to this effect.
  4. Take action against complicit companies involved in implementing Israel’s brutal and illegal siege, especially if they have contracts with your institution.
  5. Pressure governments to stop all military trade with Israel and, in the case of the U.S., stop funding it.

We solidarize ourselves with this call, and encourage workers throughout industries in the South and elsewhere to find ways to engage with it, whether that’s through job actions, speakouts, open letters, petitions, or other activities. All efforts to broaden solidarity and increasingly to bring the working class movement into the Palestine solidarity movement are contributions towards ending the Israeli/U.S. occupation and war on the Palestinian people.

We are deeply concerned about the rise of antisemitism and Islamophobia, as Jewish and Muslim communities around the world live in fear for their safety. There are also many disturbing efforts by employers and politicians to silence the growing solidarity movement. In recent weeks, workers have been fired for expressing opposition to the Israeli war being carried out with U.S. backing, and attacks are underway in Florida and elsewhere to ban the campus organization Students for Justice in Palestine, among other efforts to censor workers from speaking out. We encourage workers to strongly oppose such moves to limit free speech or to discriminate against workers on the basis of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, immigration status, or otherwise.

Workers in the U.S. have a role to play in ending the siege on Gaza. We must continue to find every avenue to raise the call for a ceasefire and pressure the U.S. government to end its support for the ongoing bombardment of Gaza and all aid to Israel. One of the core tenets of the workers movement that we are building is internationalism – that in order to build the power necessary to transform our workplaces and our society, workers must unite and build solidarity across national borders.

In this critical moment, all efforts are needed to mobilize pressure on the U.S. government to stop the war on the people of Palestine.

Alliance For Global Justice

Dear Friend,

AFGJ urgently needs your support in a challenging time. While we may not have received a formal declaration of war, we are currently battling what can only be described as a hybrid war – a strategy targeting independent media, grassroots organizations, students, student groups, professors, and popular movements as enemies and targets of war.

In the context of the hybrid war against Palestinian solidarity groups, AFGJ finds itself under attack with false allegations, crippling our ability to raise funds online. The perpetrators of this hybrid war are also actively working to halt any funding from foundations, creating a larger, concerning pattern.

War takes on new forms, and some weapons are designed to kill movements and popular organizations.

Alliance For Global Justice

Hybrid warfare is an evolution beyond concepts like psyops, propaganda, and “manufacture of consent.” It seeks not only to control or distort but to demonize, criminalize, and destroy those who question or resist systems of privilege and repression.

In this crucial time, we ask for your support on two fronts:

  1. Coalition Building: We are organizing a coalition of solidarity organizations facing similar targeting over Palestine-related activities. For more information, please email James@AFGJ.org.
  2. Financial Support: We invite you to go “old school” with us and send a check or money order. Due to being cut off from online platforms, we’re asking for your help in the form of a tax-deductible contribution by check or money order to: Alliance for Global Justice, 225 E. 26th Street, Suite 1, Tucson, Arizona, 85713.

Each check represents more than a financial donation; it is a handwritten testament to the strength of our shared purpose. We appreciate your understanding and unwavering support as we navigate this challenge together.

Donations in the form of stock, donor-advised funds, legacy donations, and IRA distributions play a crucial role in sustaining our mission. If you’re interested in exploring these options, please email donate@AFGJ.org or complete this form to connect.

Alliance For Global Justice

Stand strong with us in the face of these attacks—your contribution is essential to fortify our resilience.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

POP SAYS PAUSE NOT ENOUGH, CALLS FOR PERMANENT CEASEFIRE

The People’s Organization For Progress (POP) believes the current pause in Israel’s war on Gaza does not go far enough and demands the Biden administration immediately work towards a permanent ceasefire.

“We believe the current pause in the fighting is a positive development in that it has brought about the release of hostages held by Hamas and Palestinians held by Israel,” Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress stated.

“However, it is not enough because Israel’s government has said it will resume its attacks on Gaza once the pause has ended,” Hamm said.

“Israel’s genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza must end. The People’s Organization For Progress calls for a permanent ceasefire now and uninterrupted, unrestricted flow of all humanitarian aid needed for the Palestinian people in Gaza,” he said.

Hamm is also a U.S. Senate Candidate who plans to run next year in the New Jersey Democratic primary.

“People are marching and protesting across the U.S., around the world and even in Israel for a ceasefire,” he said.

“The governments of France and other countries have called for a ceasefire. Some have recalled their ambassadors from Israel and several have cut diplomatic ties in protest of war crimes against Palestinians,” he said.

“Polls show a vast majority of Americans want a ceasefire. President Biden and his administration should heed the call for a ceasefire. Failure to do so could have dire consequences,” Hamm stated.

“The war is spreading to the West Bank and beyond. Israel is bombing Lebanon and Syria. It could become a regional conflict and lead to world war,” he said.

“We call upon all members of Congress and especially New Jersey’s congressional delegation to support, co-sponsor and vote for HR 786 which calls for immediate deescalation and ceasefire in the war,” he said.

“Furthermore we oppose any more military aid to Israel as long as it continues this genocidal attack upon Gaza, violates the human rights of the Palestinians and commits war crimes against them,” he said.

“Finally, we call upon the Biden administration to pursue peace through a just solution to the conflict which includes ending occupation, annexation, dispossession, and apartheid,” Hamm said.

“It must also include recognition of Palestinian equality, human rights, self-determination, and the establishment of a viable Palestinian state,” he said.

-END-

“I call upon President Biden to demand an immediate ceasefire in Israel’s war on the Palestinians in Gaza. I challenge all candidates in the U.S. Senate race in New Jersey to do the same. The war crimes and genocide against Palestinians must end.” – Lawrence Hamm #CeasefireNow

Madison: Contact Alderpersons to Support Ceasefire Resolution!

Madison-Rafah Sister City Project

Dear Friends,

A resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza has been introduced into the Madison Common Council.  It is scheduled to be voted on next Tuesday Dec. 5, in a virtual council meeting. While limited in scope, its pretty consistent with resolutions that have been passing around the country, calling on the Biden administration and the federal government to secure a ceasefire and stop the killing.

Here is the resolution text and and updated tally of those alders who have signed onto it.  As I write this, it has 10 co-sponsors with 11 — a simple majority –needed for passage.

However as we know from past experience, alders may receive heavy pressure to withdraw their support, so in addition to getting a couple more alders on board we’ll need to persuade those who are signed on to stay that way and vote for it.

SO…If you are a resident of Madison, please take 5 minutes to contact the Common Council in support of this bill.  Contact YOUR alder AND the entire council with one email.

STEPS

(1) Look up your alder by your home address here. Check the resolution link above to find out if they are already a sponsor.

(2) Compose and send ONE email to <allalders@cityofmadison.com>. We understand this is more effective than using the contact form, but that’s an option. Use your own words; some ideas are below. Include your alder’s name and that you are a constituent of theirs, and:

If your alder is a sponsor, thank them for signing on and urge them to continue supporting the resolution.

OR

If your alder is not yet a sponsor, ask them to become a sponsor or at least pledge to vote for the resolution.

Messaging: Keep it short and simple and emphasize that this is the least that they can do to save lives and end the catastrophic destruction of Gaza; tell them why this is important to you and to any organizations that you belong to.  Ask for a reply.

If you can let me know that you’ve done this, that would be great. In any case, thanks for your support.

Barb O.

Coordinator, Madison-Rafah Sister City Project

ps– For quick reference, here is a complete list of all alders and their emails and phone numbers. We suggest that if you know an alder personally, you could give them a call.
