Mexican president says he will require freight rail operators to offer passenger service

Editor’s Note: Mexico privatized its publicly owned rail system in the 1990s, and within a year or so lost most all of its passenger trains. Now the President is pushing to restore passenger service by demanding the private railroads – now largely controlled by CPKC and UP – run passenger trains or allow government operated passenger trains on their lines. This bears watching closely.
