Calling For An Immediate – Long Term Cessation of Violence
Answering the call of the Patriarchs of the churches in Jerusalem to forego the usual festivities of Advent and Christmas in order to focus on the suffering of those afflicted by war, we gather at Cathedral Square to call for an immediate and permanent halt to the slaughter of the innocents in Gaza.
We gather as Christians to pray and advocate for a permanent cessation of violence. We say: Let us make peace on earth, not war on children.
We come together in prayerful action to honor the children we have lost to war through song, litany, the lighting of candles, and by telling their stories. We invite those joining us at the prayer vigil to bring their cellphones to be used in addition to candles. A call to action will ensue.
