Dear Supporters,
For more three decades we have been opening the phone lines to folks inside. Mass incarceration has accelerated across the decades and our family members are aging inside. There has been exponential growth in the caging of people in the U.S. These long sentences consume whole lives, resulting in what we are forced to call “death by incarceration” (DBI).
Prison Radio has a unique signal path. Our correspondents report the cruelty and damage of institutional neglect. This fall we have heard from 12 “embedded” reporters documenting medical neglect and abuse.
These stories are heard here at Prison Radio first: because of you. Your support, your actions and amplifications, mean these brave correspondents can break through the censorship.
Kevin Rashid Johnson is battling heart failure and cancer. He was shipped far away from his care providers and now is being denied appropriate treatment.
Krystal Clark is deathly allergic to the black mold that is endemic to Michigan WHV. Her request for care has been ignored, belittled, and so far denied. Her reports document deteriorating conditions. The prison refuses to respond even as the Governor of Michigan has taken notice and asked for her to apply for commutation.
Kenneth Zamarron called the day his friend committed suicide, a preventable death caused by failing to respond to Kurt’s request for support and the throwing of him into isolation. William Dixon and Raymond White all published commentaries about the serious mental health crisis inside.
These truth tellers are reaching across the walls and using our recording studios and microphones to let you know the ugly, painful truth. They are also documenting how they support each other against all odds, and how we can support them.
Please listen to their stories. Support our work advocating for them and bringing them home. We have no big foundations backing us, we only have you.
Please make a gift today to support our end-of-year campaign. We need $85 k by Jan 2 to keep our phones open. These funds support our recording studios and the daily staff time to produce and record.
It also supports the campaign work that we do for our reporters in crisis.
