What: Candlelight Vigil at Senator Baldwin’s Madison Office Calling for a Ceasefire
Where: In front of Senator Baldwin’s Madison Office – 30 W. Mifflin St. (across from State Capitol)
When: 4:30 – 5:30 pm
Why: Because thousands of innocent people are being killed in Palestine. The U.S. has the power and the moral obligation to stop it.
Tomorrow: (12/19) A collection of over a dozen peace, justice, and/or faith organizations are holding candlelight vigil calling on Senator Baldwin to join over 60 other U.S. lawmakers including Congressman Mark Pocan and Senators Sanders, Durbin, Welch, Merkley, and Warren who have publicly called for a ceasefire.
Since October 7, 2023, over 18,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks – the majority of these deaths have been women and children. World and U.N. leaders, human rights organizations, and scholars around the world have called the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza “crimes against humanity” and “genocide.” The Center for Constitutional Law has already submitted cases in California Federal court for “Failure to prevent and complicity in the Israeli government’s unfolding genocide,” against Israel, Biden, Blinken, and Austin.
Polls show that 75 percent of Democratic voters support a ceasefire; for voters under 30, only 10 percent approve of Israel’s handling of the war.
It is past time that Senator Baldwin represents her constituents and do the moral thing and publicly call on the Biden Administration and Israel to initiate a ceasefire now.
Groups that are cosponsoring this candlelight vigil include:
- Building Unity
- Family Farm Defenders
- Interfaith Peace Working Group
- Jewish Voice for Peace
- Madison For a World Beyond War
- Madison Mennonite Church
- Madison Quaker Meeting
- Madison-Rafah Sister City Project
- Pax Christi
- Peace Action Wisconsin

- Vets for Peace – Madison

This candlelight vigil is part of an ongoing presence at Senator Baldwin’s Madison Office calling on her to call for a ceasefire. This Monday – Friday presence at her office started on Dec. 1, 2023, with the end of the temporary ceasefire. Now in its fourth continuous week, its current hours are Monday – Friday from 11 am – 4 pm. All are welcome.
