| Dear Supporter, Attached is the complaint filed on behalf of Kevin “Rashid” Johnson by Rights Behind Bars. Kevin “Rashid” Johnson, a journalist, artist, and prison intellectual, has been retaliated against by guards and prison officials for years. He has been writing and drawing and speaking out about the inhumanity of American prisons. He is being punished for exercising his First Amendment rights. He was recently transferred far from his medical providers while undergoing treatment for cancer and congestive heart failure. He has been disappeared by the prison officials, his number erased from their system. He remains on hunger strike and has refused to eat for 42 days. Rashid began the hunger strike inside Red Onion State Prison to protest his transfer, medical neglect, and solitary confinement. He was denied access to drinking water and had to drink from the toilet. His health is rapidly deteriorating. The prison brought him to court and attempted to have the local judge issue an order to force-feed him. He is currently imprisoned at the Powhatan Medical Unit in Virginia, a Virginia Department of Corrections facility. Rights Behind Bars has filed a lawsuit to take action against the VADOC for unconstitutional retaliation by guards and officials. |

Rashid has been a Prison Radio correspondent since 2012. His commentaries have always focused on exposing the prison system’s abuses of power.
