‘STOP THE HATE: BUILD PEOPLE’S UNITY’ RALLY & MARCH

Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 1 pm Library Mall, Madison, WI

MADISON, WI — Wisconsin labor and community organizations host “Stop the Hate: Build People’s Unity” rally Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 at 1 P.M. at Library Mall at UW Madison, followed by a march down State Street for a speak out at Capitol Square.

This event is sponsored by the People’s Unity Coalition and the Wisconsin Bail Out the People Movement, endorsed by the Wisconsin Coalition for Justice in Palestine and supported by many other organizations.

Statement:

Our unified presence is a challenge to the rising threat of Nazism and other forms of fascism in our state and asserts our insistence on ending the U.S. backed genocide in Palestine.

Right wing hate groups mobilize Islamophobia and anti-semitic attacks, and target marginalized people including Muslims, Jews and members of the LGBTQ community. Nazi “Blood Tribe” members have menaced a Pride event in Watertown in July 2023, marched in Madison November 18 and projected a swastika onto a dorm building January 21, 2024. Right-wing state legislators, who clamored to “stand with Israel” after October 7, 2023 and continue to support the ensuing genocide against the Palestinian people, create a climate of hate that encourages Nazi and other forms of fascist activities.

As scholar and organizer Harsha Walia writes, “Ethnonationalist states such as Israel, founded on violent dispossession and separation, serve as models for white power organizations.”

These right-wing legislators support costly and endless aid to the apartheid regime in Israel, making the current genocide in Palestine possible. We call on our elected representatives to support an immediate, permanent ceasefire and the return of all Palestinian prisoners and hostages.

Join us and bring your friends, neighbors, fellow students and co-workers on Feb. 10 to resist hate and build a stronger, more engaged people’s movement in Madison and beyond.

We demand that money be invested in our communities, not on genocides and endless U.S. wars.

Let it be known that Wisconsin stands for a free Palestine and an end to the U.S. financial support for Israel’s war on Palestinians.
