Dr. Cornel West, Marc Lamont Hill and Mumia Abu Jamal Discuss Mass Incarceration and Political Prisoners

The distinguished group discussed the current dire situation we find Mumia Abu-Jamal in right now. They engaged with his legacy as a reporter, writer and activist as a lens through which to analyze mass incarceration as a decades long epidemic, and to examine the intersections of police violence and militarism in Philadelphia and the ongoing genocidal acts against the people of Gaza, as well as the larger occupation of Black Philadelphia and Palestine.

Mumia’s commentaries offer us understanding and compassion. We stand committed to bringing his voice outside the prison walls.

We’ve got a whole variety of voices in our movement… Mumia Abu-Jamal will always sit at the height because of the unbelievable level of sacrifice and love.
(Dr. Cornel West)

Enough is Enough – Mumia needs Freedom Now!

I’m telling you what I see and he, he should never reach the point where he reached last year. …His body can’t take much more.

Mumia has experienced severe weight loss, hair loss, and an extremely serious skin condition. His health is failing and he needs you to take action now.
“In the last number of years, in particular the last eight years, Mumia has had many health struggles, and we as a community have rallied to make sure that Mumia Abu-Jamal has survived, just like we rallied to prevent his execution when he was under an execution date loomed.” (Noelle Hanrahan)
Since September, Mumia Abu-Jamal’s health has been declining at a concerning rate. He has lost weight, is anemic, has high blood pressure and an extreme flair up of his psoriasis, and is loosing hair. In April 2021 Mumia underwent open heart surgery. Since then he has been denied cardiac rehabilitation care including a healthy diet and exercise.
This week, there has been an outpouring of support for Mumia while he faces off with the state’s violence and struggles to regain his health. We cannot stop here – join us in demanding freedom.
