Asalamu’alaykum, the following statement is in response to events that took place at yesterday’s White House Iftar:
The #AbandonBiden campaign today marks a significant juncture in the American political landscape. Our community’s refusal to be used for public relations maneuvers by the Biden administration became resoundingly clear on Tuesday night. This defining moment was not just about the decline in participation by numerous Muslim American leaders—motivated by principle or the fear of backlash—but it also saw the outright cancellation of what would have been a token iftar, replaced by a policy discussion that failed to address our concerns adequately.
At this meeting, the only Palestinian American present, Dr. Thaer Ahmad, made a courageous and unequivocal statement. By walking out, he not only expressed his personal disillusionment but also embodied the collective sentiment of our community. In a poignant interview with CNN, Dr. Ahmad stated, “I wanted a chance to stand up and walk away from the people making decisions the way they are walking [away] from my people.” This action, and these words, capture the essence of the #AbandonBiden campaign.
Our movement is not a fleeting reaction but a steadfast resolve. We are unequivocally walking away from President Biden and the Democratic Party, as they have not just abandoned our people but have contributed to the loss of countless lives.
