Madison-Rafah Sister City Project

RALLY 5 PM TODAY AT UW LIBRARY MALL at UW MADISON

PHONE CALLS NEEDED IN SUPPORT OF THE ARRESTED PROTESTERS

AND…NEW: COMMUNITY PANEL DISCUSSION ON PALESTINE ON UW CAMPUS ON FRIDAY

The State Patrol, UW Campus Police, Madison Police and Dane County Sheriffs were all called in this morning at 7 am, apparently by the University Administration, to destroy the student encampment protesting the Gaza war and demanding that the UW disclose and divest from its investments benefiting Israel. At least a dozen people were reportedly arrested and/or cited, others injured. As of now, the encampment at UW-Milwaukee is still standing.
Organizers are calling on everyone to come down to Library Mall today at 5 pm for a rally.

Media reports indicate the encampment is being re-established...so if you can’t make it at 5 come whenever you can make it.
(Our previously scheduled benefit raising funds for the Middle East Children’s Alliance Gaza emergency relief project is going ahead tonight as planned between 4 and 9 pm at Giant Jones Brewing. If you can’t make it you can always donate here.)

The encampment organizers are also asking everyone to make these four phone calls

in protest of the police action. Please insist that all charges against those arrested be dropped and that no further police action against peaceful protestors be taken.

Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin (608) 262-9946

Option 4Dean of Students Christina Olstad (608) 263-5700

Interim Campus Police Chief Brent Plisch (608) 890-2730

Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett: 608-266-4022 (remind him that he’s elected)

(In the Ironic Comparisons Department, you might want to check out this actual physical attack on the student encampment at UCLA by Israel supporters, which the police allowed to go on unimpeded for four hours.)

Finally, we want to share this event scheduled for Friday on the UW Campus.
