| The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said the Biden administration must speak out strongly to condemn the latest videotaped burning of copies of the Quran and destruction of mosques by Israeli soldiers in Gaza and end weapons transfers to the Israeli government to force an end to the genocide. CAIR said the desecration of Islam’s revealed text show again that the Israeli genocide in Gaza is targeting Islam as well as the Palestinian people. Video aired by Al Jazeera reportedly shows Israeli soldiers burning and tearing copies of the Quran in the Bani Saleh Mosque in northern Gaza. In other video, Israeli forces reportedly destroy the Grand Mosque in Khan Younis, one of the oldest mosques in Gaza. The date of the Quran-burning video is not clear. | In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said: “By once again filming themselves burning Qurans and destroying mosques, the forces of the far-right Israeli government have confirmed that their war on the Palestinian people in Gaza is also a war on Islam itself. The Biden administration must condemn this religious desecration and suspend weapons transfers to the Israeli government to force an end to its campaign of slaughter and starvation in Gaza.” He noted that in June, CAIR called on the Biden administration to investigate reports that an American soldier taking part in the genocide in Gaza posted an image of herself and a destroyed mosque defaced with insults targeting Islam’s Prophet Muhammad. In May and March of this year, CAIR said video of Israeli soldiers burning and tearing Qurans in Gaza is further proof of Israel’s ongoing genocide in targeting the Palestinian people and “shows the true face of the genocide.” In December of last year, CAIR condemned the Israeli government’s celebration of Israeli troops who took over and desecrated a mosque in the West Bank as an “attack on Islam.”READ MORE |
