Palestine at the UN (from US Rep Rashida Tlaib, includes petition!)

Salaam, it’s Rashida Tlaib.

Last week, Palestine was seated among United Nations “member states” for the first time.

The majority of countries in the UN voted to accept Palestine as a full member state, but the U.S. blocked it from becoming official.

For now, Palestine cannot vote on resolutions but does have the right to introduce proposals in the UN General Assembly.

Their first proposal lays out what the UN’s International Court of Justice has already made clear: Israel is an illegal occupying power under international law. This means the Israeli government is obligated to end its occupation, and Palestinians have a right to self-determination in their homeland.

This has been the dream of so many families to be able to be left alone to live their lives and raise their families.

Israel’s government has violated international humanitarian law for decades now with impunity because countries like ours refuse to hold it accountable. Nearly a year into this well documented genocide, we’re seeing continued expansion of the campaign to annihilate the Palestinian people.

Israel’s Prime Minister refuses to withdraw military forces from Gaza and now the IDF is similarly attacking the West Bank with a goal of total destruction.

Support the demand from Palestinian representatives in the United Nations: Israel must comply with international law by immediately withdrawing all military from the occupied Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and Gaza.
