WISDOM has many exciting upcoming events in the following weeks we would like to keep you informed about!
Next week, join WISDOM leaders on September 23rd at 11 am in front of Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility (MSDF) at 1015 N. 10th St. Milwaukee, WI 53233. We will stand in solidarity with the National Religious Campaign Against Torture’s Together to End Solitary Campaign that raises attention on the 23rd of each month. You can visit https://www.nrcat.org/torture-in-us-prisons/take-action/together-campaign for details about the campaign. Directly impacted leaders and religious leaders will call for an end to the torture of solitary confinement. They will also emphasize the urgent need to completely depopulate Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility and close the state’s two oldest prisons in Waupun and Green Bay.
We are also kicking off something new this month. We will meet up for a quick pre-action meeting by Zoom on the evening before the 23rd. We’ll offer prayers on behalf of those detained in solitary confinement. Testimonies from those who have survived solitary confinement will be presented. We will also be informed about the events scheduled for the next day. This meeting should only take up to twenty minutes. We invite you to the first thoughts, which will take place THIS SUNDAY, September 22, at 5:30 pm. You can register in advance here.
Then, sign up for the our Faithful Stance for Equity program “White Christian Nationalism and Project 2025: What Do We Do Now?” on Tuesday, October 8 at 6:30 pm. Breanna Illéné from the Wisconsin Council of Churches, our presenter, will guide us through a review of the ideological parallels between White Christian Nationalism and Project 2025, a current news story. It looks like a really engaging evening, especially in terms of enabling us to explain why White Christian nationalism is more than just a theoretical theological concern. You can register in advance here.
Finally, we heartily suggest watching the movie “Bad Faith” if you haven’t already! If you don’t mind a few commercials, you may watch it for free at https://tubitv.com/movies/100020971/bad-faith. It will assist in setting the scene for what you will hear on October 8th.
