Milwaukee: Machinists Lodge 66 strike at Miller Coors. The unit of 42 machine repair techs have been on strike fora fair contract. A major issue in the strike is control of work schedule and work/life balance. The company wants to remove limits on forced early, late, and weekend shifts. The company has reduced the number of of machinists over the past several years through attrition, and now they’re trying to force the remaining workers to work longer hours and weekends instead of hiring more staff.
Workers and community members are encouraged to support the picket. They are out on the line from 7 am to 4 pm this week, but they will have picket shifts next week to cover 7 am to 5 pm. They picket along State Street from the visitors center up to 37th and Highland in front of the corporate headquarters.
