Voces de la Frontera: Information is power: Know Your Rights

Everyone has fundamental rights, regardless of their immigration status. What can and should immigrant families be doing now? Recently featured in the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal discussing what mass deportation might look like in Wisconsin, Voces member and partner Attorney Melissa Soberalski is recommending:
Find trusted legal advice and learn what your options are;Make a preparedness plan in the event someone in your family must leave, sorting out issues like child care, finances, and power of attorney; Know your rights if you are stopped. Carry any legal immigration documents with you, but do not carry false identity documents.
Remember: You always have the right to remain silent. Don’t answer questions about your immigration status or what country you’re from, and don’t sign anything from ICE without consulting an attorney. Since the elections, Voces de la Frontera has organized regional meetings to define and vote on our defense plan in Green Bay, Milwaukee, Monroe, Sparta, and Arcadia. Upcoming sessions include Racine, Whitewater, and Waukesha.   Visit our  Voces de la Frontera Know Your Rights (KYR) digital resources and regional KYR clinics and training sessions.
