Earlier this week, Dane County Circuit Court Judge Jacob Frost ruled that the 2011 Wisconsin law, Act 10, which limited collective bargaining rights, has been ruled unconstitutional.
Overall, Judge Frost clarified that some sections of Act 10 will no longer be enforceable, restoring full collective bargaining rights to municipal employees in Wisconsin. This means that employers must bargain with certified employee Unions over wages, hours, and conditions of employment, which had been limited to base wage increases only.
MTI, MTI-ESP, and USO leaders filed a request to collective bargaining with MMSD, in accordance with Judge Frost’s decision. On December 4, a formal letter was delivered to Superintendent Joe Gothard and the Board of Education members requesting to initiate collective bargaining promptly.
