Interview with Luisa Sequera on Venezuela’s water sowers and the First Ecosocialist International

We spoke with Luisa Sequera, an educator, researcher and community organizer with the School of Watersheds that Plant Water in Trueke, Venezuela. Sequera discusses the importance of water and water sowing in the upholding of ancestral knowledge and harmony in the country’s Caribe bioregion. Sequera also discusses the role of water sowers in advancing the Fifth Historic Objective of Venezuela’s Plan for the Homeland, which establishes a framework preserving the country’s ecological integrity, and the founding of the First Ecosocialist International in 2017 in Yaracuy, Venezuela.

Interview with Diente de Conejo, co-author and advisor on Venezuela’s fishing laws

We met with Julio Cesar Moreno, better known as Diente de Conejo (“Tooth of the Rabbit”), who for many years served as an advisor to former president Hugo Chávez in the fishing town of Chuao, Aragua and co-authored a fishing law that prohibited trawl fishing in Venezuela. Diente de Conejo describes how biodiversity and fish abundance has increased in his locality since the passing of the law. He also tells the story of an attempted U.S. mercenary attack on the town in 2020.
