Take action and send the USPS Board of Governors a message? We don’t want them to appoint a privatizer as the new Postmaster General.
Big corporate interests want a private-sector takeover of the Postal Service and they are playing the long game. They are trying to run down the service to create a crisis and hurt public support for the institution. Once they have done that, their push for full privatization seems like the only option. This long game involves: Defunding: hurting the Postal Service’s financial viability Degrading the Postal network so it can’t do its job Demonizing the workers, because they are the USPS’s strongest advocates Dismantling – when public support is eroded and the service failing, then they come in for the final attack. Just yesterday, we saw yet another corporate-lobbyist op-ed in favor of gutting the service. So-called “public-private partnerships” mean scrapping the USPS’s own new sorting facilities and transportation network and providing deep discounts to private competitors who drop their mail into the postal network at the last mile.
The Postal Service’s own management called this the “hollowing out of our network”, which “created an environment for consolidator shippers to thrive while [the Postal Service] struggled to survive.” That’s why we’re asking you to reach out to the Board of Governors and tell them that we do no want a privatizer as the new Postmaster General. This is an important moment to stand up for our public Postal Service. Thank you for your continuing support, From the team at US Mail Not for Sale
