Michigan Coalition Against Genocide Continues Weekly Gatherings and Vigils

By Abayomi Azikiwe, April 13, 2026

Since 2023, amid the United States-backed Israeli mass displacement and slaughter against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, the Michigan Coalition Against Genocide has been working to raise awareness about the situation in West Asia.

Every week on saturdays at the Eastern Market in Detroit and sundays at the Zekelman Holocaust Center in Farmington Hills, the organization gathers to remind the public in the United States that their government is enabling genocide in Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan and now Iran.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed utilizing US-produced munitions and fighter jets funded by the tax dollars of working people. Despite the purported ceasefire in Gaza, Palestinians are still being starved, dislocated and killed on a daily basis.

In recent weeks, journalists covering the situation in Gaza have been murdered in obviously targeted assassinations.

On Sat. April 11, MCAG members and supporters gathered once again at the Eastern Market which is packed with shoppers, farmers and merchants.

These actions have taken on added significance with the U.S.-Israeli war against the Islamic Republic of Iran beginning on Feb. 28. Although the administration of President Donald Trump declared a ceasefire on April 7 after pledging to eliminate the thousand-years civilization of the Iranian people, a negotiated settlement has still not been reached after talks failed in Islamabad, Pakistan on April 11.

The Trump administration then declared another offensive operation by the U.S. Navy around the Strait of Hormuz.

Consequently, the MCAG will move into the spring and summer with its demonstrations and educational work against these genocidal wars.
