Wisconsin Bail Out The People Movement 15th Anniversary Celebration April 25, 2026 in Madison with Drag Performers and National Speaker Melinda Butterfield

MADISON, WI — The labor and community organization Wisconsin Bail Out the People Movement will be celebrating its 15th anniversary Saturday, April 25 at 2146 E Johnson Street in Madison. Doors open at 4 P.M. followed by speakers at 5 P.M. and performers from 6-8 P.M. There’s a $10 suggested donation (no one turned away for lack of funds).

The emcee for the performance section of the celebration will be Cass Marie Domino and performers include: Andi Withani Domino, Jacquez, Nemo, Cici Voyer and PonyBoy.

This event will feature other speakers and free literature from local and statewide union and community organizations including May Day 2026 information (vdlf.org).

“I’ve long admired the work of the Wisconsin Bail Out the People Movement as a beacon in my home state,” Melinda Butterfield, keynote speaker for April 25, said. “It’s an honor to be invited to speak on this important anniversary, at this moment of great peril for trans and queer communities, and all poor and working people. Nothing is more important right now than building solidarity and unity to fight back against the billionaires and politicians who want to divide us.”

Melinda Butterfield (she/her) is an organizer with Women In Struggle-Mujeres En Lucha. A lifelong activist, she is a proud trans woman who grew up in Wisconsin. In 2023, Butterfield initiated and was a lead organizer of the National March to Protect Trans Youth in Orlando, Florida. She is co-editor of the socialist publication Struggle-La Lucha frequently writing about issues including Palestine and worker’s actions. Butterfield lives in Brooklyn, New York. Butterfield was a close collaborator with the late Bob McCubbin (“The Roots of Lesbian and Gay Oppression: A Marxist View” and  “The Social Evolution of Humanity, Marx and Engels Were Right!”) and the late Leslie Feinberg, a member of  the National Writers Union, and United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 1981  (“Stone Butch Blues,” “Transgender Liberation: A Movement Whose Time Has Come,” “Trans Liberation: Beyond Pink Or Blue,” “Transgender Warriors,” “Rainbow Solidarity In Defense of Cuba,” “Drag King Dreams”).

Wisconsin Bail Out the People Movement formed in 2011 in the midst of bank bailouts and foreclosures and after the implementation of the anti-union Jim Crow based Act 10 which eliminated almost all public sector worker collective bargaining in Wisconsin.
