Welcome to Solidarity Saturday, your weekly highlight reel and shortcut to staying plugged in.
Happy Pride! The best way to celebrate? Fight back.
Pride isn’t just a month — it’s a movement. And so is this one. So what’s the connection between LGBTQ+ rights and organizing unions? At a time when politicians are pushing legislation that weakens protections for everyone, queer and trans workers become increasingly vulnerable to discrimination, inaccessible healthcare, and fair wages.
Starbucks has made it harder for all workers to pay rent, and many are struggling to even get the hours needed to qualify for insurance. That’s why unions are vital to the fight to protect our communities. When we add democracy to our workplace, we can push back against profits-over-people decisions. In fact, organized baristas were the ones who stopped Starbucks from banning Pride decorations in 2023! Like we always say… Be gay and organize! Here’s this week’s brew: When No One Will ListenWhen Starbucks management, HR, and corporate all won’t listen, taking action as a union is the only way to get the changes we need. Starbucks has one of the highest CEO-to-worker pay gaps in the entire country, and they’re pouring money into executive bonuses, private jets, and influencer PR instead of taking care of their workers. This is what democracy in the workplace looks like. Let’s go, union baristas in Lancaster, PA! Nashville Knows What’s Up Starbucks has an opportunity to do the right thing as they call Nashville home: settle a fair union contract and end the union-busting! Thank you to members of the Nashville Metro Council like Delishia Porterfield for standing with the working class! Knocking on Every Door Your job ever break so many labor laws that you need to go to Congress about it? Baristas are doing exactly that. When the company won’t come to the table, we take it to the top.Thank you for fighting with us! As always: delete the app, don’t buy Starbucks, and share this with everyone you know.In solidarity, Starbucks Workers United |
