About wibailoutpeople

We are a part of the national Bail Out The People movement which formed in 2008 to fight against the bailouts to the banks. Since then we have been in numerous fights against poverty, racism and war. We demand that the people be bailed out not the banks, a moratorium on all foreclosures, a federal jobs program now and other demands. We have been participating in the Wisconsin people's uprising, Bloombergville in NYC and numerous other people's actions.

Call on Walmart’s CEO to Listen to Women

From Jobs With Justice, http://www.jwj.org/

Walmart is the largest private employer in this country and nearly 60% of its hourly employees are women. It sets the standards for the retail industry, its suppliers, and for employers in general. How Walmart treats women ultimately has ramifications for all women, not just those who work in its stores.

And unfortunately, according to many of its Associates, Walmart is not truly a place of opportunity for women. The company avoided accountability recently when the Supreme Court dismissed the class action status of Dukes v. Walmart, the largest sex discrimination case in history. And although (with much public relations fan-fare) Walmart just announced a “women friendly initiative,” the effort doesn’t address a core problem at Walmart: the way women who work there are treated.

Walmart CEO Mike Duke: Meet With OUR Walmart & Women’s Groups (Sign Here):

http://afl.salsalabs.com/o/4023/c/33/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=2937

Today, many national groups that advocate for women, including the National Organization for Women, National Women’s Law Center, and Family Values at Work, announced that they are joining Making Change at Walmart to stand with Walmart Associates working for respect from their company through the Organization United for Respect at Walmart (OUR Walmart).

Collectively, they sent an open letter to Walmart CEO Mike Duke asking for a meeting with OUR Walmart representatives and their organizations to discuss concerns. We want Walmart to improve its pay; system of resolution for employees’ concerns to more adequately protect women from sexual harassment; scheduling practices; systems for promotions; and sick, vacation and family leave policies to make them work for women.

Express your support by adding your signature on the open letter to Walmart CEO Mike Duke.

San Diego Labor Council Comes Out in Support of Occupy San Diego

From: http://obrag.org/?p=46622

OCTOBER 3, 2011

Editor: We have just received this Statement of Support by the San Diego Labor Council for the Occupy San Diego movement and its efforts.

From Lorena Gonzalez, the San Diego and Imperial County Labor Council’s Secretary-Treasurer, regarding the “Occupy Wall Street” and “Occupy San Diego” campaigns that we look forward to participating in:

“The San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, AFL-CIO is proud support the “Occupy Wall Street” and associated “Occupy San Diego” efforts. As a coalition of local unions, we work hard to remind media, elected officials, our members and the general public that the economic crises too many people are facing today were not caused by the third-grade teacher, the grocery clerk, the sanitation worker or the firefighter.

Our economic crisis was caused by the greed on Wallstreet, CEO’s whose pay is 300 times that of their average worker and big banks who have caused a foreclosure nightmare for middle and working class Americans.

We will stand with those who seek to bring attention to the real economic problems that regular San Diegans and Americans face.”
