About wibailoutpeople

We are a part of the national Bail Out The People movement which formed in 2008 to fight against the bailouts to the banks. Since then we have been in numerous fights against poverty, racism and war. We demand that the people be bailed out not the banks, a moratorium on all foreclosures, a federal jobs program now and other demands. We have been participating in the Wisconsin people's uprising, Bloombergville in NYC and numerous other people's actions.

White Supremacists threatening Wet’suwet’en actions throughout ‘Canada’

White supremacist vigilante groups have put a call out for people to use violence against blockades throughout the country today. If there is an ongoing blockade or action in your area numbers are needed to keep people safe.

Two Sons of Oden members approached the BC legislature yesterday evening and then surrounded it with trucks honking their horns. Bomb threats have also been made against the Unist’ot’en and Tyendinaga Mohawks.

The Indigenous youth occupying the BC legislature have put a call out for people to stand with them throughout the day today.

While this is incredibly upsetting people are not standing down and new actions are happening every day. It is imperative that people show up and stand in solidarity with the indigenous people on the front lines making sacrifices and standing in harms way for what is right.

Three incredible videos were released yesterday that illustrate the amazing power of this movement:

  1. Chief Woos reflecting on the visit of Wet’suwet’en Hereditary chiefs to Mohawk Territory
  2.  A video of the Gitxsan taking over the highway of tears for 8 hours and forcing the RCMP to release their hereditary chiefs who were arrested after blocking the rail line.
  3.  Victoria Redsun speaking to APTN about being arrested during the raid on the Unist’ot’en Camp.

If you can, take 15 minutes to pause your day and watch them all in full. This moment is historic, and has only just begun.

National Network of Abortion Funds: Appreciating our network’s Black leaders

Happy Black History Month!

This Black History Month (and every day!) we honor the rich legacy of dignity and power Black people build to make liberation a reality. We also honor the many Black folks like Trayvon Martin who have become ancestors at the hands of state sanctioned violence.

At the National Network of Abortion Funds, we approach our work through a Reproductive Justice framework, with clear commitments to intersectionality and racial justice. Reproductive justice is a framework and approach started and led by women of color, specifically Black women from SisterSong. It is an invitation and a call to action beyond the gender equality, abortion rights, or pro-choice framework that often does not account for the many ways institutions, cultural norms, and systems of oppression exert control over people’s bodies and decisions, especially for people of color and people affected by economic injustice.

When we imagine freedom, we look beyond how the more privileged among us navigate systems safely. We understand liberation and humanity, particularly for those who are marginalized, are impacted by white supremacy and anti-Black racism. Our work must move us all towards action to build a world without the harmful systems that hold us down, and towards lifting up and centering the most marginalized among us.

Carry the conversation forward after this month by having Black and Bold Heart-to-Hearts on the intersections of Black liberation and Reproductive Justice. Invite your friends, family, and acquaintances into meaningful conversations about Reproductive Justice, issues that relate to abortion, and why you support abortion funds. We believe dialogue, storytelling, and intentional conversations are powerful tools to organizing and strengthening our movement. We hope these conversations will serve as a catalyst to deepen connections and make abortion access a reality.

Thank you for all the love and labor you extend towards shaping a world where Black lives and all of our lives can thrive.

In solidarity,

National Network of Abortion Funds

Detroit Continues Solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en at the Tunnel to Canada

By Abayomi Azikiwe

There was a second weekly demonstration in downtown Detroit on Jefferson avenue near the tunnel at the United States-Canada border on Mon. Feb. 24, 2020 during rush hour.

The action was again in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en First Nation people in British Columbia in Western Canada.

This protest was called by the Moratorium NOW! Coalition and the Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice (MECAWI) along with other organizations which endorsed and participated.

The First Nation people are attempting to halt a gas pipeline being constructed by corporations on their lands. A leaflet circulated by activists at the scene of the manifestation in downtown Detroit said of the situation that: “For over 7 years, TC Energy (formerly TransCanada Corp), has tried to push a $6.6 billion, 670-kilometer
Coastal GasLink (CGL) fracked gas pipeline through Wet’suwet’en territory. The pipeline would carry fracked gas from Dawson Creek, B.C. to the coastal town of Kitimat, where LNG Canada’s processing plant would be located. The CGL pipeline is part of a $40 billion
fracked gas plan by LNG Canada to build and operate a terminal for the liquefaction, storage, and loading of liquefied natural gas. LNG Canada is the single largest private investment in Canadian history.”

TAKE ACTION NOW! Demand Governor Evers Veto Prison Expanding Measures

https://bit.ly/2vdvexs

The Wisconsin Legislature has passed a package of so-called “tougher on crime” legislation. But let’s be clear: these measures would weaken public safety by destabilizing families, weakening communities, and diverting resources away from priorities like mental health and addiction treatment.

Our legislature should be working to support communities and families, not needlessly putting more people behind bars.

Tell Governor Evers to stand with communities and veto these measures now!
