Sign Petition: Nancy Pelosi, #skipAIPAC

AIPAC’s on the ropes – but this weekend it could get a big boost from an unlikely source.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is going to be speaking at their annual conference.

That’s right, at a time when AIPAC’s power is clearly waning and we are watching change happen in real time – with groups like MoveOn coming out strongly in favor for Democrats to skip AIPAC – Nancy Pelosi is lending her legitimacy to them.

Add your name to call on Speaker Pelosi to #skipAIPAC.

Amongst AIPAC’s all-star line-up of anti-Muslim, anti-Palestinian speakers, one of the country’s most powerful politicians will be speaking. This is appalling.

Anyone who values justice, equality and freedom for Israel/Palestine should not be endorsing AIPAC.

AIPAC’s morally bankrupt decisions have never been more clear. First they condemned Netanyahu’s partnership with the far-right Kahanist “Jewish Power” party and then flip-flopped and invited him to speak at their conference.

Instead of speaking at their conference Nancy Pelosi should be publicly condemning the far-right shift in Israel and AIPAC’s dangerous political behavior. Giving AIPAC cover right when progressives are finally responding to their constituents and turning away from AIPAC is simply the wrong thing to do.

Will you join us and add your name to call on Speaker Pelosi to #skipAIPAC?

We’ve been able to sway Pelosi before when she was piling on an attack of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s critique of AIPAC, and we can do it again.

Kenosha, April 5, 2019: Pack The Court For Chrystul! (Prelim Hearing)

Free Chrystul Kizer

912 56th Street #L, Kenosha, 9 A.M. – 12 NOON

This is the next preliminary hearing for Chrystul. The hearing starts at 9:30. We’ll get there by 9:00 to make sure we get good seats. Chrystul’s favorite color is red, and we’ll have red armbands and buttons like last time, but if you wear red it’ll increase the impact.

Last hearing the judge ruled in favor of Chrystul’s attorneys! He granted release of evidence regarding Volar’s child pornography activities. We also learned that the Kenosha police disclosed another pile of evidence from that investigation (which is unusual, especially with how emphatic DA Gravely has been about how he disclosed everything to the judge previously). The new documents include about 100 pages and 30 hours of video.

This hearing will be to discuss what portion of that evidence is “discoverable” that is, what should be made available to Chrystul’s attorneys.

Last time the hearing was also delayed 45 minutes while others’ cases were heard in the same room. This may have been because court was simply backlogged, or it may have been an intentional effort to deter us from coming back. So, plan for some unpredictability, but it is better to show up even if you have to leave before things start if there’s another delay in the future.

Chrystul will be there, riding a cold prison bus almost 2 hours there and back from Taycheedah, so it would likely boost her spirits to see some supporters in court.

A note on court etiquette: try to dress nice (doesn’t need to be formal, but presentable), take off hats when you enter the room, no using phones or talking while court is in session (when the judge is in the room). Some members of Volar’s family often show up, so we should try to sit together as a group. Be polite, but try to avoid interaction with them.

We want to show the judge and the DA that Chrystul is loved and missed, without making them feel disrespected or antagonistic.

Brazilian Social Leader and ‘Defender of Life’ Killed

“We can say that possibly crimes are a reaction to the struggle of these people for human rights,” said Helder Solomon.

Brazilian social leader, Dilma Ferreira Silva, and other activists were killed Friday in the rural Parana, Brazil, the Movement of the Affected by Dams (MAB), an organization which fights for water and electricity rights for the public, reports.

Ferreira, together with two male activists, one of whom was her partner were killed in the Salvador Allende settlement rural area of Baiao municipality, although the “MAB is still uncertain about the reasons for the crime,” the organization said.

Former President Dilma Rousseff issued a statement entittled: “The Assassination of a Defender of Life,” in which she wrote, “Dilma Ferreira Silva and her relatives are the new victims of violence in the countryside, authorized by the hate speech and the neglect of the current (Bolsonaro) government.”

Ferreira Silva was an activist in the MAB for over 30 years, “since (the construction of) a dam destroyed the city in which she lived,” during the Brazilian military dictatorship in 1974. According to the MAB official site, “Dilma saw her city flooded with the opening of the floodgates and experienced total neglect in the repair process. After 30 years since the beginning of the work, there was no compensation to those affected.”

According to Civil Police, the husband of Ferreira, Claudionor Costa da Silva, 42, and Hilton Lopes, 38, were also killed. The police force is investigating and the motivation for the crime is still unknown.

After the denunciation made by the MAB, Workers Party’s (PT) lawmaker and chairman of the Human Rights and Minorities Commission of the Brazilian Lower Chamber (CDHM), Helder Solomon, urged authorities to take action as soon as possible to investigate the murder.

“Considering the preliminary information, we can say that possibly crimes are a reaction to the struggle of these people for human rights,” said the PT lawmaker.

Former President Rousseff stated that this “is another sad moment in the history of the MAB, which just today celebrated the ‘International Day of Water.’ As its militants say, “water is for life, not for death!'”

Organizer’s in Sheboygan Declare: ‘Build The People’s Movement’

By WI BOPM

A diverse crowd of all ages joined together in Sheboygan March 23 for “People’s Offensive March And Rally.” Participants came from throughout Northeastern Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Racine, Chicago and other locations.

Participants began the day at Lake Michigan for a Water Ceremony and to participate in cultural events. From there the all ages crowd went to three different march points and chanting marching to Fountain Park to gather in unity and for a rally.

At the rally with a backdrop of banners, a rainbow of speakers from community, union and student organizations all raised the need to continue building an independent people’s movement that is grounded in anti-racism and internationalist. The history of worker’s struggles in the Sheboygan area was honored including the UAW Local 833 strikes at Kohler, educator actions and more. Women, LGBTQ and immigrant rights activists spoke out and the need for solidarity with People’s Venezuela was raised.

Following the rally, participants marched to Mead Library for a community gathering to share donated food, to develop relationships and to learn about people’s organizations that had literature tables for the occasion.

The March 23 actions were sponsored by Crusaders of Justicia, Sheboygan COMM-Unity and Wisconsin Bail Out The People Movement and supported by numerous organizations in Wisconsin and the Communist Workers League of Chicago which sent a delegation to the march and rally.
