We demand that the people be bailed out not the banks, a moratorium on all foreclosures, a federal jobs program now and other demands. We have been participating in the Wisconsin people's uprising, Bloombergville in NYC and numerous other people's actions.

Haiti Action Committee Statement: Open Letter in Solidarity with the People of Haiti On the 15th Anniversary of the US-backed Coup

We, the undersigned, stand in full solidarity with the struggle of the Haitian people for human rights and democracy. We salute them for their courageous resistance on the streets, facing teargas, bullets, torture, and extrajudicial killings by the corrupt regime of Jovenel Moise and Jean-Henri Ceant . On the 15th anniversary of the US-backed coup in Haiti, we join our Haitian brothers and sisters in demanding the uprooting of this regime and the restoration of genuine democracy. We denounce the US government– together with the UN occupation forces in Haiti– for installing and maintaining this regime. We demand an immediate end to US and UN support for the repression of the people’s movement in Haiti.

The US government has a long history of sabotaging the struggle of the Haitian people for democracy and human rights. The US government opposed the Haitian revolution and supported the French government’s punishing extraction of “restitution” from the Haitian people after they declared independence from France in 1804. Between 1915 and 1934 , the US government militarily occupied Haiti, consolidating its neo-colonial domination over the country. From the 1950s through the 1980s, the US government propped up the Duvalier dictatorships that kept Haiti “open for (US) business”. Then, after the people of Haiti successfully struggled to establish democracy, the US government supported two violent coups against the elected governments of Jean Bertrand Aristide– the first in 1991 and the second in 2004. Since the 2004 coup, the US government– joined by the French and Canadian governments, euphemistically referred to as the “international community”– has played a key role in facilitating the military and political occupation of Haiti by UN forces. These occupation forces have committed/ perpetrated gross human rights violations. During this period, thousands of Haitians, particularly those associated with the popular, grassroots “Lavalas” movement for democracy– have been killed or subjected to horrific conditions of incarceration as political prisoners.

The most recent regime installed by the US government is that of Jovenel Moise, swept into power in the November, 2016 elections orchestrated under UN occupation and sponsored by the US government. Despite overwhelming evidence of fraud, the US government immediately heralded the elections as legitimate and proceeded to  lavish the regime with financial and diplomatic support while  UN forces have trained its brutal police. Braving tear gas, bullets, and torture, the Haitian people took to the streets, protesting these fraudulent elections in mass demonstrations that occurred on a daily basis. This past summer, the demonstrations exploded into a general strike across the entire island, protesting the regime’s involvement in the Petrocaribe scandal, its brazen looting of public funds, and the deepening immiseration of the population. To stifle the people’s movement, the regime has relied upon targeted assassinations of student activists, massacres, and repression by foreign mercenaries.

Despite these tactics, the people’s movement has only continued to build, culminating in massive protests throughout  this February. “Chavire chodyè a” (overturn the cauldron) has become a slogan of the movement, demanding not only the resignation of Jovenel Moise, but an uprooting of the entire, corrupt system.  As Fanmi Lavalas– the political party of the poor majority and the leading force in the pro-democracy movement– put it in a press statement, “Crisis and Resolution”, issued on November 15th, 2018:

“The population is rejecting the usurpers who have derived their power from the fraudulent elections and who have discredited themselves with multiple scandals involving corruption and impunity….Fanmi Lavalas Political Organization continues to stand firmly with the Haitian people to “chavire chodyè a” (overturn the cauldron). No cosmetic solution will bring an effective and lasting solution to the crisis in which we are plunged.This system has run its course. It cannot be patched up. It must be changed.”

In place of this regime and system of power, the people’s movement is demanding the formation of a progressive interim government that can clean up corruption, stop impunity, regain the missing Petrocaribe funds, invest in public infrastructure and alleviate suffering, as well organize truly fair and free elections.

This is a crucial moment for all who care about human rights to stand in solidarity with the people of Haiti. This requires both supporting their dynamic struggle for national liberation and pressuring the US government/ UN occupation forces to stop violating Haitian sovereignty. Solidarity also requires overcoming the blockade on real information about the struggle in Haiti. When the corporate media bothers to focus on Haiti at all, in the absence of a natural disaster, it provides distorted and limited coverage that frequently perpetuates racist stereotypes. Moreover, progressive media outlets and organizations all too often ignore Haiti. Such marginalization of the struggle in Haiti is particularly inexcusable given the centrality of the Haitian revolution and the Haitian people in supporting liberation efforts throughout the Americas, from Simon Bolivar’s struggle to the abolitionist movement in the US. Together, we join with the Haitian people in affirming that “tout moun se moun!” We salute them for their courage and will demonstrate– through our words and actions– that they do not struggle alone.

The world’s most ambitious predators — candidates for US president, like Clinton and Biden — are also the most likely to condemn young Black men as “predators,” and to wreak mass death, worldwide.

“Guaido and his lynch mob forces are not afraid to create their own Stephon Clarks or Emmit Tills.”

Stephon Clark was twenty-two when he was murdered by Sacramento police in March of 2018. Clark was shot six times in the back and eight times overall for brandishing his cell-phone. Not a year later, the police have once again been exonerated. Clark, however, has been criminalized over and over by the U.S. corporate media. His corpse has been demonized as a thief, a batterer, and someone who was mentally unstable at the time of the murder. Clark has been effectively killed twice by U.S. imperialism and its white supremacist war on Black America.

The corporate media repeats ad nauseum how Black Americans deserve their premature deaths at the hands of the police. Yet the corporate media never makes the argument that the police deserve to be punished for their propensity to kill Black Americans, especially Black men and boys. Black men and boys make up the vast majority of Black Americans killed by the police. Of the 997 Americans murdered by the police in 2018 , 229 identified as Black American. And of the 229 Black Americans murdered by the police, 219 identified as Black males. The mass elimination of Black men and boys is the fruit of the super predator ideology, aptly called New Age racism by former Black Panther Party leader Elaine Brown ….

ALBA, Iran, Russia and China Express “Unlimited Support” for Venezuela

Ambassadors of member countries of the ALBA and several other nations expressed their support for Venezuela and repudiated the sabotage in which the Caribbean country is being targeted.

“The Secretary General of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), (David Choquehuanca) along with the ambassadors of the countries that are part of this important Alliance and diplomatic heads of Russia, Palestine, China, El Salvador, Iran and Turkey on Monday expressed their unrestricted support for the government of President Nicolás Maduro, to peace in the region and respect for international law”, the Venezuelan embassy in Bolivia said in a statement yesterday.

The diplomatic mission also rejected the “new sabotage attack on the Guri hydroelectric dam , with the aim of undermining any attempt by the Venezuelan Government to achieve the stabilization of the economy and curb the insurrectionist situation that the United States and its dolphins try to run in the country. ”

In this regard, Choquehuanca said that the recent attacks against Venezuela are not isolated events, but represent a risk to the democracies and sovereignty of all Latin American countries….

On Wednesday, March 13, 2019, a World-Wide Twitterstorm will take place in solidarity with the People and Government of Venezuela, between 12 noon and 2 p.m. (Venezuelan time same as US East Coast).
Since the first attack was perpetrated against the national electricity system on March 7, the Bolivarian Government, headed by President Nicolás Maduro, has been working nonstop to restore electricity to the entire country.

 

The heroic people of Simón Bolívar and Hugo Chávez, historical leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, have not wavered and once again demonstrated their desire for peace by forcefully rejecting the violence being made by sectors of the Venezuelan opposition.

Venezuela: Attack to Electricity System to Be Investigated

President Nicolas Maduro reported that he will ask for the support of the United Nations and countries with experience in cyber attacks such as China, Russia, Iran and Cuba.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced the creation of a special commission to investigate the cyber attack against the electricity system and the incorporation of international specialists.

He reported that he will ask for the support of the United Nations (UN) and countries with experience in cyber attacks such as China, Russia, Iran and Cuba.

The special commission will be led by the vice president of the country Delcy Rodríguez, and will be integrated by different instances of the State, such as the attorney general.

“I am prepared for that justice, what the Public Prosecutor orders (…) because the people have been harmed from those who think it’s all right to sabotage the electrical system and to generate a civil confrontation and then call to assault Political power. This has only one name: terrorism, they are not political, ” the president said.

He revealed that the attack was carried out from two American cities, Houston and Chicago, and said that they already have proof of how it was perpetrated.

The distribution of drinking water has been affected by the attack on the electricity system, therefore, the president will promote the special plan Blue Tank to deliver a tank of water to all households in the country.

Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) Resolution To Oppose the Invasion of Venezuela

Below is the text of the resolution passed on March 5, 2019  by the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) Executive Board and on March 11  by the CTU House of Delegates. 

The Chicago Teachers Union represents nearly 25,000 teachers and educational support personnel working in schools funded by City of Chicago School District 299, and by extension, the nearly 400,000 students and families they serve. The CTU is an affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers and the Illinois Federation of Teachers and is the third-largest teachers local in the United States. CTU Resolution To Oppose the Invasion of Venezuela 

WHEREAS, the principal of “sovereign equality” is a fundamental notion of the UN  (United Nations) Charter of Nations and the UN has stated in this document’s Preamble that nations come together in that body “to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, and to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and  the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common  interest …”; and

WHEREAS, Article 2 (4) of the Charter of the United Nations states that, “All  members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force  against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations”; and

WHEREAS, the current Trump administration, various European nations, and the  Lima Group in South America, has recently made menacing pronouncements against the sovereign state of Venezuela by discrediting the result of the May 20, 2018,  Venezuelan presidential election of Nicolas Maduro, and have backed the self-declared “Presidency” of Juan Guaido, President of the National Assembly of   Venezuela; and

WHEREAS, President Trump’s current Special Envoy to Venezuela, Elliot Abrams  was involved in the April 11, 2002, attempted coup in Venezuela that removed then  Venezuelan Hugo Chavez from power for less than 48 hours before a popular 19 uprising put him back in office; and the current National Security Advisor John  Bolton has accused Venezuela of being part of a “troika of evil” that includes Cuba  and Nicaragua; and another major actor in this U.S. foreign adventure, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo along with Elliot Abrams was a key player in the so called  “dirty wars” in Latin America 1980s that involved Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Chile; and

WHEREAS, the U.S. has recently attempted to provoke a border incident with the  Maduro government by moving $20 million worth of “aid” to Venezuela after it has 2 frozen the foreign assets of that country, discouraged other countries from doing  business with Venezuela, and imposed sanctions that increase the poverty and  misery of the general population by costing the Venezuelan government billions  ever year; and

WHEREAS, the United Nations, the International Red Cross, and other international  relief organizations refused to work with the U.S. on delivering this “aid” to Venezuela, which they say is politically motivated; and the Venezuelan government considers a Trojan Horse for an eventual military invasion’; and

WHEREAS, U.S. President Donald Trump, U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton,
and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have all explicitly stated that U.S. corporations should control the oil resources in Venezuela, which implies that this will be a war for oil; and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated that the elected  Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro’s “days in office are numbered”; and

WHEREAS, the world is still reeling from the war for oil in Iraq, which has left that  country in shambles and continues to destabilize the middle east to this day;  therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) publicly states its opposition to  any military invasion of the sovereign state of Venezuela, and insists on dialogue,  diplomacy, and negotiation as the means to resolve this crisis; and

RESOLVED, that the CTU advocate for the suspension of the current sanctions  against Venezuela, and for the U.S. to cease all threats, military mobilization, and  interference in the economic and internal politics and affairs of the Venezuelan  people; and respect the right of self-determination of this sovereign nation in accordance with U.S. stated commitment to the rule of law; and be it finally

RESOLVED, the CTU stands in solidarity with the Venezuelan labor organizations Sindicato Nacional Fuerza Magisterial (SINAFUM)[1] , Colectivo Clasista de  Trabajadores y Trabajadoras de la Educación.[2] , “Carmen Conzoño” y al Frente  Nacional de Lucha de la Clase Trabajadora (FNLCT)[3], and other organizations that  oppose the interference in Venezuela’s sovereign affairs and the consequent threat of military intervention.

POINTS OF UNITY

The COMMUNIST WORKERS LEAGUE stands for the revolutionary overthrow of the capitalist class and its state. We want to take the banks, factories, warehouses, stores, transportation systems, offices, healthcare system, utilities and natural resources away from the tiny, super-wealthy class of capitalists and put it all in the hands of the multinational working class of the world and the oppressed masses of humanity, so we can own and run them in a planned and rational manner in order to meet people’s needs, not profit by exploitation of the majority. We do the work of the world and we deserve it all!

We believe the only road to a just society free of class exploitation, crisis and war is through socialist revolution and a continued struggle toward communism. Modern technology could provide every human being on this planet with a home, education, security and a healthy life, but only if it’s freed from capitalist ownership and the profit system. Like Huey P. Newton of the Black Panther Party said, “The people have the right to the best that technology can give.” This requires the rule of the working class, the dictatorship of the proletariat and the abolition of the capitalist class.

We are joined together in our unconditional defense of the right of all oppressed nations to self-determination, especially those under the boot of U.S. imperialism. This includes oppressed nations within the confines of the U.S. – African Americans, Indigenous nations, the Xicano nation and all Latinx peoples, and colonized Puerto Rico, Caribbean and Asian/Pacific Islands. We stand with all those fighting racism, white supremacy and national oppression, defending full rights for all immigrants including undocumented workers and all those challenging Islamophobia, anti-Arab and anti-Asian bigotry.

We are internationalists and extend our support and solidarity to all peoples struggling for self-determination against capitalism and imperialism. We fully defend all socialist countries and workers states against imperialist subversion and intervention, including Cuba, China, Vietnam, Laos and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, as well as Venezuela and Bolivia and all others who seek to follow a socialist path.

We stand with the people of Palestine, the Philippines, the Donbass and all those fighting for national liberation in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. We support the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination free from U.S.-backed and -funded Zionist genocide and occupation and for their right to return. We support the rights of Syria, Yemen, Iran, Zimbabwe and all states fighting U.S. and NATO imperialist military intervention and political and economic subversion.

We fully oppose sexism and gender and LGBTQ+ oppression and see the roots of this oppression in the emergence of private property and class society, which we fight to overturn. We are for the right of women to full equality and reproductive freedom, including free, legal and accessible contraception and abortion on demand. We are the for unconditional defense of all transgender and gender-nonconforming people in the struggle for full liberation and equality and against reactionary transphobic ideology. Patriarchy will be smashed when capitalism is abolished.

We know that scientific socialism is the only way to save the planet and humanity, that the multinational working class will be the agent of change to destroy the capitalist system and build socialism. A new world can only be created by continuous struggle to do away with the old and build the future with unity, solidarity, international cooperation and planning to meet human and environmental needs in the face of capitalist created climate change that is destroying the planet.

Unity and solidarity are built through struggle, and we fight daily around demands that not only aim to challenge the very structure of this rotten system, but to build the working-class unity and community power necessary to tear down capitalism, imperialism, white supremacy and gender oppression.

It is time for the masses to unite and organize for freedom, justice, liberation and for the dismantling of all oppressive structures – for socialism. This is OUR struggle. Let’s struggle together.
