About wibailoutpeople

We are a part of the national Bail Out The People movement which formed in 2008 to fight against the bailouts to the banks. Since then we have been in numerous fights against poverty, racism and war. We demand that the people be bailed out not the banks, a moratorium on all foreclosures, a federal jobs program now and other demands. We have been participating in the Wisconsin people's uprising, Bloombergville in NYC and numerous other people's actions.

Week of Action For Mumia Abu-Jamal Feb. 11-15, 2019

This week, everyone on this list can help increase the number of people supporting the worldwide struggle to free Mumia and thousands of other prisoners. (Krasner as you know says he is appealing Tucker’s ruling because too many other prisoners would be affected.)

MONDAY, Feb 11

  1. Facebook users: Starting at 6pm today, post this graphic widely. Be prepared to share a livestream from facebook/Mobilization4Mumia, 6:45-8pm.
  2. Twitter users: Post this graphic at 6pm too. In addition, alert your users to be prepared to like and retweet a video feed from @mobilize4Mumia sometime between 6:45 – 8pm.

    Philly area activists:
Krasner is speaking at the Main Library (19th & Vine) at 6:30pm today (Mon.)

  1. If you can be there, we need people to hand out fliers starting at 6pm explaining Mumia’s case and Krasner’s role in denying Mumia’s freedom. On the back side of the flier is the graphic.
  2. We also need people to gather signatures on paper petitions – the same as the online petition – https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/drop-mumia-appeal/
  3. When Krasner gets up to speak, we are asking everyone to silently hold up the back of the flier that says “KRASNER – DROP THE APPEAL”
  4. Ted Kelly will upload video of the moment to @Mobilize4Mumia using Periscope
  5. Basym Hassan will upload live video to facebook /Mobilization4Mumia

    All Mumia activists:
    Please share these livefeeds widely.

    TUESDAY, Feb 12

    Call, tweet, email Krasner day.

    THURSDAY, Feb 14

Encourage everyone to use the same graphic as their facebook/twitter profile image for the day. (a special square version of the graphic will be shared for this purpose later this week)

Krasner has several speaking engagements this week – because we are hurting his “progressive” image. Be alert to calls to attend these events.

Faith Based Leaders in La Crosse Respond To Racist Graffiti: Hate Has No Business Here, Action & Leadership Are Needed!

La Crosse Interfaith Shoulder to Shoulder Network – LISSN

This is NOT a dream. Hate, Racism, Islamophobia, and Bigotry still live with us! A clear hate crime was committed in La Crosse. Hate Has No Business Here!!

Today I learned that a racial slur “Sand N_____” was found on the company building of a Muslim business owner in La Crosse. Today’s date is February 8th, 2019 and we still find hateful words, thoughts and action permeating our La Crosse community and country. Two years before Dr. King’s “I have a dream speech”, on June 1961 he said “America is essentially a dream. It is a dream of a land where men of all races, of all nationalities, and of all creed can live together as brothers”. He went on and quoted the declaration of Independence “the substance of the dream can be found in these profound words, we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal”.

February is Black History month, a month that is meant to recognize the contributions and role of Blacks in U.S History, but instead in La Crosse, Wisconsin we spend time talking about this horrible incident. As an American Muslim of Nigerian descent, who considers La Crosse home, I am appalled, angry, and sad.

Good people of La Crosse, please let’s not make excuses or have a debate of whether this is a hate crime. Ignorance is also not an excuse. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), hate crime is defined as “a criminal offense committed against a person, property, or society that is motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity/national origin.” The perpetrator(s) spray painted “Sand N_____” which is a racial slur against Blacks, African Americans, Muslims, and Muslims of Middle Eastern or North African descent.

Action is needed, and I call on the good people of La Crosse Police, Mayor, La Crosse community leaders, and the people of La Crosse to resolve this wrong.

Dr. King said “It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me and I think that is pretty important, also” Malcolm X also said that “You’re not to be so blind with patriotism that you can’t face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it or says it.”

This was wrong just like many of the ills we see in society, politics and leadership today. The vast majority of the people of La Crosse are good and decent people, but action is needed.

Leadership is needed. Our children’s future depends on it. We want ALL of us and our children (Black, White, Hmong, Irish, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, and others) to live in a society where their homes and businesses are not spray painted with racist or degrading slurs.

I am a member of the La Crosse Interfaith Shoulder to Shoulder Network – LISSN, a La Crosse based organization established in February 2016 to empower people of all faiths (Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists) to work together to end anti- Muslim sentiment and hatred of any kind by increasing understanding and strengthening the voice of tolerance, freedom and peace.

We want our society to resist xenophobia and are combating Islamophobia in the Coulee Region. Everyone has a part to play. Choose to have these difficult conversations in your household and with your children. Choose to have these conversations in your workplace and religious institutions. Choose to have these conversations in your schools. Choose to talk to people that look different than you do or worship differently that you do. Choose to speak up to immoral leaders wherever you find them. Choose to break bread and eat with people you do not know. Choose to be allies to groups like Shoulder to Shoulder or other groups that represent under represented populations. Choose to take peaceful yet effective action that stamps out Hate.

We need to send a clear message. NOT IN LA CROSSE. Hate Has NO Business Here. All are Welcome.

Download and put up signs that stay “Hate Has No Business Here”

Sincerely,

Wale Elegbede, La Crosse Interfaith Shoulder to Shoulder Network – LISSN

“Keep Our Government Open” rally, National Workers Stayaway Day

With another government shutdown looming this Friday at midnight, a “Keep Our Government Open” rally is planned for tomorrow and a National Stayaway Day is being discussed for Saturday. Tomorrow’s rally is set for 12 noon at the US Capitol (East Front). “We propose to make February 16 National Stayaway Day,” wrote Jobs with Justice Co-Executive Directors Sarita Gupta and Erica Smiley in The Nation. “We urge federal workers to consider staying away from work that day; we urge all of their allies to stay away from flying or other activities relying on federal service and to mobilize in protests at airports and other sites to urge others to also stay away.”

Free Chrystul Kizer

We would like to extend gratitude and solidarity to the following organizations for endorsing our letter to DA Graveley ☀️☀️ Feminist Justice League (Duluth/Superior), Lake Superior Ex-Incarcerated People Organizing, Red Umbrella Justice (RUJ), Sister Warriors Freedom Coalition, Superior Save the Kids, Wisconsin Bail Out The People Movement, and Young Women’s Freedom Center ☀️☀️

SUMMARY

Chrystul Kizer is an incarcerated trafficking survivor who is being charged with life in prison for acting in self-defense against her trafficker. The punishment that Chrystul is facing for defending her own life signals that black women and girls have no selves to defend. Right now Kenosha County District Attorney Michael Graveley has the power to drop all charges against Chrystul immediately. We are urging Graveley to do the right thing and drop all charges now so that instead of enduring more violence, Chrystul’s healing can being with her family and community. Please show your support for Chrystul by signing this petition! Her next hearing is scheduled for February 21, 2019.

Kenosha, Feb. 21, 2019:

Pack The Court For Chrystul! (Prelim Hearing)

Pack The Court For Chrystul! (Prelim Hearing)

Free Chrystul Kizer

This is the next preliminary hearing for Chrystul. It will likely be short, probably the lawyers arguing for their motions regarding the release of discovery evidence to the defense and the judge possibly making a decision on that.

Chrystul will be there, riding a cold prison bus almost 2 hours there and back from Taycheedah, so it would likely boost her spirits to see some supporters in court.

A note on court etiquette: try to dress nice (not formal, but presentable), take off hats when you enter the room, no using phones or talking while court is in session (when the judge is in the room). Some members of Volar’s family showed up at the last hearing, so we should try to sit together as a group. Be polite, but try to avoid interaction with them.

We want to show the judge and the DA that Chrystul is loved and missed, without making them feel disrespected or antagonistic.
