About wibailoutpeople

We are a part of the national Bail Out The People movement which formed in 2008 to fight against the bailouts to the banks. Since then we have been in numerous fights against poverty, racism and war. We demand that the people be bailed out not the banks, a moratorium on all foreclosures, a federal jobs program now and other demands. We have been participating in the Wisconsin people's uprising, Bloombergville in NYC and numerous other people's actions.

Chicago, September 20, 2018: Day of Action for Puerto Rico: Rally Against Austerity!

Chicago Boricua ResistanceDay of Action for Puerto Rico: Rally Against Austerity!

219 S Dearborn Street, Federal Center and Plaza, Chicago, 5 – 7 P.M.

After hurricane María devastated Puerto Rico the neglect of the US and Puerto Rico’s governments has left the Island in a dire state, with a confirmed death toll of over 2,965 people on top of a $73 billion debt. The Fiscal Control Board and the government have been playing with the livelihood of the most vulnerable Puerto Ricans by closing schools and basic services. This is outrageous. From Puerto Rico to New York, Boston, Phoenix, Orlando and Chicago, people are standing up for the dignity of Puerto Ricans.

Join us for this national day of action on the anniversary of the hurricane to demonstrate our indignation on the Federal Plaza on 230 S. Dearborn St. on September 20th at 5:00 PM. We will rally and march to call out these abuses and say #DecolonizePR#YoNoComoAusteridad#ConstruyamosOtraVida#LaQuieroPublica#SeAcabaronLasPromesas

Milwaukee, October 21, 2018: No More Cages! Write Letters to lgbtq+ people in prisons

Hosted by Black and Pink: Milwaukee

No More Cages! Write Letters to lgbtq+ people in prisons

Join Black and Pink Milwaukee as we meet at the UW-Milwaukee Student Union, in the common seating area, right outside the LGBT Resource Center, at 1 PM, to write letters of support to queer people held captive in prisons, to read and respond to their letters, and to work toward abolishing the violence of incarceration. We will also be joined by community members who are organizing to support prisoners on strike, and we will learn more about the campaign, and write letters of support to striking prisoners.

The work is important but the meet-up is in a casual, friendly setting, and all are welcome. Even if you have never written to anyone incarcerated before or done any kind of mail processing, but are interested in checking out what Black & Pink is all about, you’re invited to attend!

Black & Pink is an open family of LGBTQ+ prisoners and “free world” allies who support each other. We are outraged by the specific violence of the prison industrial complex against LGBTQ+ people, and respond through advocacy, education, direct service, and organizing.

Location is wheelchair accessible. Event is free.

Decolonize Puerto Rico! Week of Action Sept 20-27, 2018

Decolonize Puerto Rico! Week of Action Sept 20-27

Hosted by Puerto Rico Tribunal

September 20 marks one year since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Over 4,600 people died in this catastrophe, meanwhile the poverty rate has surged over 50% since the disaster. One year later, the destruction of Puerto Rico has not ended, rather it has escalated. Nearly 300 schools have closed. Around 400,000 Puerto Ricans have since left the islands. All aspects of life in Puerto Rico are under attack by the dictatorship of the banks, the Fiscal Control Board. The cause of the suffering of millions of Puerto Ricans is no longer a natural disaster, but rather 120 years of US colonialism and exploitation.

September 23, El Grito de Lares, will be the 150 anniversary of Puerto Rico’s uprising for independence. During this week, September 20-27, join the over 50 organizations and leaders of the struggle for Puerto Rico to demand Decolonize Puerto Rico!
