About wibailoutpeople

We are a part of the national Bail Out The People movement which formed in 2008 to fight against the bailouts to the banks. Since then we have been in numerous fights against poverty, racism and war. We demand that the people be bailed out not the banks, a moratorium on all foreclosures, a federal jobs program now and other demands. We have been participating in the Wisconsin people's uprising, Bloombergville in NYC and numerous other people's actions.

Visions of Abolition is a new feature length documentary about the prison industrial complex and the prison abolition movement.

Part I “Breaking down the Prison Industrial Complex” weaves together the voices of women caught in the criminal justice system, and leading scholars of prison abolition, examining the racial and gendered violence of the prison system. Our film features the work of Susan Burton, a formerly incarcerated mother who established A New Way of Life, a group of transition homes for women coming home from prison in South Los Angeles (39 mins).

Part II “Abolition: Past Present and Future,” documents the recent history of the prison abolition movement through the organizing efforts of Critical Resistance and explores the meaning of abolitionist politics. By focusing on the collaboration between Critical Resistance and A New Way of Life, (known as the L.E.A.D. Project) the second half of the film unfolds a vision of abolition in practice (48 mins).

Palestinian prisoners’ message of solidarity to U.S. National Prison Strike

http://freeahmadsaadat.org/2018/08/21/palestinian-prisoners-message-of-solidarity-to-u-s-national-prison-strike/

The following statement was released by the Palestinian prisoners of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, jailed by Zionist colonialism for their role in struggling for the freedom of their people. They are among nearly 6,000 Palestinians imprisoned by the Israeli occupation today. Their solidarity comes to extend fists of resistance and hands of unity through prison bars to support the U.S. National Prison Strike, beginning August 21.

http://freeahmadsaadat.org/2018/08/21/palestinian-prisoners-message-of-solidarity-to-u-s-national-prison-strike/

….As you enter your strike, we salute all of you and your struggle, and we urge all who are not already committed to join in the strike. We extend a special revolutionary salute to the imprisoned strugglers of the Black Liberation Movement and other liberation movements, including Mumia Abu-Jamal, whose consistent internationalism and principled struggle is known and resonates around the world. We demand the freedom of these freedom fighters in U.S. jails, from Leonard Peltier to Mutulu Shakur.

We know from our experience that it is through struggle and confrontation that true freedom can be realized. Your strike is being launched within the heart of U.S. imperialism, the greatest danger faced by our Palestinian people and the people of the world. We know that your victory will also be a victory for Palestine – just as our victories in Palestine will be a victory for all of the struggles against imperialism, racism and oppression in the United States and globally.

With revolutionary greetings,

The Palestinian prisoners of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine inside Israeli jails

Nation’s Second-Largest Teacher Union in Los Angeles Taking Strike Authorization Vote

Press Release Photo

WHO: United Teachers Los Angeles represents more than 33,000 LAUSD educators, including teachers, librarians, counselors, nurses, psychologists, psychiatric social workers, therapists, substitutes, early childhood and adult teachers. They have been working without a contract for over one year. This strike authorization vote will allow the UTLA Board of Directors to call for a strike if one becomes necessary. Voting results are expected Aug. 31.

https://www.utla.net/

WHAT: After 17 months of fruitless bargaining, the California Public Employment Relations Board has declared we are at impasse with LAUSD. As UTLA demands that LAUSD stop stalling and get to mediation immediately, tens of thousands of LAUSD educators begin a strike authorization vote tomorrow that lasts through Aug. 30. UTLA has made it clear to LAUSD that we are ready and willing to meet for mediation on August 22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, 30, & 31. However, Supt. Austin Beutner and the district have basically ignored their legal and moral obligation to participate and refused to meet until September 27. Despite a $1.7 billion projected reserve, LAUSD refuses to make progress on key issues, including:

·       Smaller class sizes

·       Fair pay raise

·       More nurses, counselors, psychologists, and librarians

·       Less testing and more teaching

·       Charter and co-location regulation

·       Real support for school safety

·       Community schools and support for families

·       Greater stakeholder input to help magnet school conversions

·       Expanded support for bilingual education

·       Improved working conditions for early education and adult education teachers

https://www.utla.net/

Event Details: Teachers at Thomas Starr King Magnet Middle School will be casting their strike authorization votes after school. They will be available to give interviews in English and Spanish. The district has been giving out false information that UTLA opposes magnetization. UTLA does not oppose magnets. In fact, King MS is a successful school that, with the approval and input of educators, went all-magnet in 2013 and includes three on campus: Gifted Arts & Tech, Environmental STEAM and Film and Media magnets. These educators will be joined by parents who are supporting their fight for a fair contract. Visuals include: Educators, parents, exterior of school, handmade signs and ballots being cast.
