About wibailoutpeople

We are a part of the national Bail Out The People movement which formed in 2008 to fight against the bailouts to the banks. Since then we have been in numerous fights against poverty, racism and war. We demand that the people be bailed out not the banks, a moratorium on all foreclosures, a federal jobs program now and other demands. We have been participating in the Wisconsin people's uprising, Bloombergville in NYC and numerous other people's actions.

#SaveThePost Office Rally in Manitowoc Draws Diverse Participants

By the Wisconsin Bail Out The People Movement

MANITOWOC, WI AUGUST 25, 2020 — Supporters of the U.S. Postal Service rallied in Manitowoc August 25, 2020 to join in the national day of action by the American Postal Workers Union (APWU).

Residents of all ages, nationalities, genders and orientations from Manitowoc, Two Rivers and neighboring cities as well as Shawano, Janesville and Green Bay participated. Speakers included members of Crusaders of Justicia, Lakeshore’s United Visionaries and the Wisconsin Bail Out The People Movement. Others included those running for public office and AFSCME and APWU retirees.

The movement for our public Postal Service is demanding that elected officials and Postmaster General DeJoy:

  • Provide at least $25 billion in immediate support for the Postal Service
  • Stop & reverse the mail slowdown policies introduced by Postmaster General DeJoy

Speakers in Manitowoc also demanded no privatization and no union-busting within the U.S. Postal Service, one of the most diverse workforces in the United States with almost 40 percent people of color and many women and LGBTQ workers. A list of the variety of services provided by postal workers at the USPS was read and these include delivering life saving medication to seniors and many others, affordable money orders, delivery of care packages to college students and to G.I.’s at military bases worldwide and last stop delivery. Vets and their supporters also informed the crowd of the numerous medications that are sent out daily from the VA. And that the same Wall Street forces attacking the U.S. Postal Service are attacking the V.A. in attempts to privatize and bust unions. The billions in capital infrastructure, equipment and vehicle fleets that has been paid for through taxpayer funds is some of what Wall Street forces want to get their hands on and also to reduce wages, eliminate pensions and other obligations to the postal workers.

Those attending the Manitowoc rally were asked to immediately call elected officials in Congress, to join in future actions such as rallies and to share the APWU information to #SaveThePostOffice

A message of solidarity was also issued to Mr. Jacob Blake a Black father who was shot in the back seven times by Kenosha police August 23 in front of his children which has sparked rebellions in that city this week.

Atomic Cafe, Friday Freedom Flick, August 28, 2020, 7 PM

The

Atomic Cafe (1982) – Re-Release Trailer - YouTube

“When not close enough to be killed, the atomic bomb is one of the most beautiful sights in the world”- U.S. Army training film

Armageddon has never been so darkly funny as in The Atomic Cafe. This 1982 cult classic juxtaposes Cold War history, propaganda, music and culture, seamlessly crafted from government-produced educational and training films, newsreels and advertisements. Taken together, these sources cheerily instruct the public on how to live in the Atomic Age, how to survive a nuclear attack (!) … and how to fight and win a nuclear war.

The Atomic Cafe relates the story of the American atomic bomb from its inception in 1945 through to dominance over world affairs in the late 1950s. Consisting solely of archival footage, filmmakers Jayne Loader, Kevin Rafferty and Pierce Rafferty craft a convincing narrative of early Cold War events and attitudes. Their film provides a critical glimpse into post-war America: a world of Duck and Cover school drills, troops marching toward ground zero at the Nevada Test Site, and politicians waxing lyrical over both the threat and the promise of a new atomic era. The film highlights the aesthetic spectacle, abundant novelty and kitsch appropriation of the bomb endemic to the period, but also reveals the drama, deceit and death associated with atomic experimentation.

WI AFL-CIO: #SaveThePostOffice Actions Across Wisconsin August 25, 2020

Tuesday, August 25, take action! Join the American Postal Workers Union and the worker-led coalition U.S. Mail Not For Sale for a day of action to Save the Postal Service.

Find an event to attend near you by searching the event map here. Wisconsin events listed below.

Postal workers have heroically worked through the coronavirus pandemic, keeping the country connected and providing an economic lifeline to businesses and a means to necessities for many. But the crisis has decimated postal revenue, while costs have increased.

The Postal Service urgently needs a $25 billion appropriation from Congress to get through the crisis intact. The House of Representatives has approved $25 billion in postal funding, but the Senate still needs to act. To make matters worse, President Trump’s handpicked Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has used his first weeks in office to pursue an ideological cutting agenda that is slowing America’s mail and hurting businesses and families even further.

On Tuesday, August 25, thousands of people will take action across America with one clear message: #SaveThePostOffice.

The movement for our public Postal Service is demanding that elected officials and Postmaster General DeJoy:

  • Provide at least $25 billion in immediate support for the Postal Service
  • Stop and reverse the mail slowdown policies introduced by Postmaster General DeJoy

Rev. Erik David Carlson of Bradford Community Church Unitarian Universalist in Kenosha: ‘We are outraged at the violence perpetuated in the name of law enforcement on people of color!’ Justice For Jacob Blake!

Bradford Community Church U U

We, the members and clergy of Bradford Community Church Unitarian Universalist, are outraged at the violence perpetuated in the name of law enforcement on people of color throughout our nation’s history and yesterday in Kenosha in the case of Jacob Blake for whose life we now pray.

Despite the fact that we cannot condone violent response to injustice, we understand and appreciate the anger and frustration that fueled the events of last night.

While we are relieved that our church home mostly survived the inferno in the lot next door, we affirm that we would rather lose 100 buildings than one more life to police violence.

Some folks have already commented that our decision to display “Black Lives Matter” on our road sign in some way contributed to the fire or that our support of the BLM movement is hypocritical or “un-Christian.” Indeed, all lives do matter to us (that’s what “Universalist” means), but given the overwhelming and disproportionate injustice suffered by Americans of color we are compelled by our faith to speak up and affirm that Black Lives Matter too.

If this is not your faith, so be it, but it is most certainly ours and we ask that all folks be respectful in honoring our sacred calling to speak truth to power, protect the innocent, empower the disenfranchised and promote equity and compassion in human relations.

In the name of Love,
Rev. Erik David Carlson

BACKGROUND

Wall Street forces are undermining the world-class efficiency and productivity of the USPS and its workers as part of his undemocratic campaign to suppress the vote and steal the election. For example, they plan on removing 671 sorting machines across the country and have already removed dozens of blue mailboxes throughout the states. Veterans, seniors and many others are not getting their medications on time – during a pandemic!

The forced slowdown has caused mail to be lost. We must also demand that the Senate pass the $25 billion emergency Covid-19 stimulus package for the U.S. Postal Service, as well as the rest of the HEROES Act. The Postal Reorganization Act of 1970 requires prompt and efficient service and access to the Post Office for all communities.

Wall Street is also trying to bust the diverse workers unions within the USPS. We in Wisconsin know the disastrous effects of public sector union busting and won’t stand for it on the federal level.

We also are in solidarity with workers at the V.A. who are facing similar attacks of union busting and privatization from the Trump administration. We are joining together because we know in unity we win!
