Protest For Teachers Safety and Virtual Learning for KUSD

Hi all! This event is to protest against KUSD’s decision to reopen in person. All surrounding school districts have recently reversed their in person decisions and are moving virtual. KUSD has been bullied into reopening by parents for the sake of sports and normalcy, but at what cost?

Parents can still choose to keep their children in a virtual curriculum, while most teachers (including my own mother) don’t have that option. Teacher strikes are illegal in 38 states, and the union is not what it once was, so we are the biggest voice they have. We need to protect and value our educators and their health and safety. Over sports, over everything.

Our intention is to pressure KUSD into reversing their reopening vote and keep classes virtual.

Additionally, a letter is being drafted to copy/paste and a link will be provided to email KUSD’s superintendent and board members urging them to reverse their decision.

Lastly, if anyone would like to prepare a few words (teachers, EDU students in the area, current KUSD students/parents, etc) please reach out to one of the hosts.

This event will take place at the District Building, 3600 52nd st. Monday, August 31 beginning at 4 pm. Please wear masks, bring signs, etc.

What is imperialism in the twenty-first century? What are the class forces within and between nations that are the predominant players in the new global system? Are there contradictions between a transnational capitalist class and national class formations? How important are international financial institutions, the debt system, and global production chains? Are there contradictions between class fractions, such as finance and manufacturing capital, different economic sectors including the fossil fuel industrial, and the military? How important are ideologies, such as white supremacy, “American exceptionalism”, and anti-communism as drivers of war and intervention? Are the corporate media and/or social media new forces in the imperial system? And, as we participate in the election process, what does this all mean for the work of peace activists today? For further information see:https://heartlandradical.blogspot.com/2020/07/conference-on-21st-century-imperialism.htmlPeace Action of WI

Join us to #SaveThePostOffice: Postal Workers Unions National Day of Action August 25, 2020

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

The public outcry – led by postal workers – is working. Earlier this week, we forced Postmaster General DeJoy to blink and he announced that the Postal Service is suspending some of the PMG’s destructive policies through November.

We welcome any step in the right direction, but this announcement is far from sufficient. Our struggle in defense of the public Postal Service, our jobs and our union, is far from over.

The House of Representatives begins hearings on Monday to demand answers. On Tuesday, we will come together across the country at our local post offices to show that postal workers and all Americans support a thriving, PUBLIC postal service.

We are joining with public supporters in a national Day of Action to #SaveThePostOffice on August 25th. Will you join us by hosting an event at your local post office?

Simply announcing a pause of some of the destructive policies that have unnecessarily delayed the mail is not enough.

  • We must secure the $25 billion of emergency COVID relief the Postal Service urgently needs.
  • We must permanently reverse the service cuts.
  • We must ensure proper staffing are restored to protect mail delivery.
  • And, we will demand that the Postal Service work with us to restore public confidence and ensure that every mail-in ballot is properly delivered and counted.

We’ve seen an unprecedented outpouring of support for the USPS and all postal workers. From the stories being shared on the #MyBestUSPSmail hashtag to hundreds of thousands of calls and letters to Congress, people are making it clear where they stand. We know that 91% of the public loves and trusts the USPS. We must protect that trust and preserve the vital service that serves every community in our country.

Please join us by hosting an event during our Day of Action to #SaveThePostOffice on August 25.

In unity,
Mark Dimondstein, President, APWU

Milwaukee, August 22, 2020: Save the Post Office & VA!

Save the Post Office & VA!

345 W Saint Paul Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin – 11 A.M. – 12 NOON

Various labor and community organizations are joining a national day of action August 22, 2020 to save the U.S. Postal Service. There are already actions such as this informational Peoples’ Solidarity Picket in Milwaukee and also in Racine at 11 A.M. at 6th and Main. We’ll also be supporting the members of AFGE at VA facilities who are also under attack by the Trump administration.

Trump is undermining the world-class efficiency and productivity of the USPS and its workers as part of his undemocratic campaign to suppress the vote and steal the election. For example, they plan on removing 671 sorting machines across the country and have already removed dozens of blue mailboxes throughout the states. Veterans, seniors and many others are not getting their medications on time – during a pandemic!

The forced slowdown has caused mail to be lost. We must also demand that the Senate pass the $25 billion emergency Covid-19 stimulus package for the U.S. Postal Service, as well as the rest of the HEROES Act. The Postal Reorganization Act of 1970 requires prompt and efficient service and access to the Post Office for all communities.

The Trump administration is also trying to bust the diverse workers unions within the USPS. We in Wisconsin know the disastrous effects of public sector union busting and won’t stand for it on the federal level. We also are in solidarity with workers at the V.A. who are facing similar attacks of union busting and privatization from the Trump administration. We are joining together because we know in unity we win!

The postal worker unions are also sponsoring a Nationwide Day of Action August 25: #SavethePostOffice. / For more info on the fight to oppose privatization at the V.A. and to support the union workers there: afge.org or facebook.com/afgeunion.
