Today a ‘Peace Demonstration’ organised by four big trade unions in Ankara targeted by two bomb attacks. Two bombs went off within the masses converging on the demonstration square at 10 am this morning near Ankara Railway Station.
According to government figures the death toll stands at 86 and 186 people were wounded.

9 of our Party members, including a member of our Central Committee are dead and 30 of our comrades are injured.

In the elections held on 7th of June the ruling AKP lost some of its vote and did not get enough MPs to form a majority government. AKP refused to enter into a coalition with the other parties, prevented attempts to set up a government and secured another election to be held on 1st of November. Furthermore, ending its five-year negotiations with the Kurdish political establishment, AKP started terrorising the Kurdish regions with its military and police forces. Due to the terror politics of the AKP more than 1000 soldiers, police, guerrillas and civilians (including women, elderly and children) have been killed in the last three months.

Through its terror campaign in the Kurdish regions, AKP is trying to bring the HDP’s – 13% of the vote and 80 MPs in the last elections – proportion of votes to below the threshold of 10% and hence again become the majority ruling party in Turkey.

Recently, forces against the terror politics of AKP and demanding a peaceful resolution to the Kurdish issue have been trying to make their voices heard through activities and demonstrations. Today’s Demonstration was organised by DİSK (Revolutionary Workers’ Unions Confederation), KESK (Public Workers’ Unions Confederation) , TMMOB (Turkish Chamber of Architects and Chamber of Engineers Union) and TTB (Turkish Chamber of Doctors). Along with the members of these four unions, the demonstration were also to be attended by HDP and EMEP as well as a number of parties, political organisations and groups.

We strongly condemn the attack and repeat the fact that these attacks cannot stop us.

Pulaski High School is under attack!

MPS administration has a board item on the agenda for the Oct. 13th SASI Committee school board meeting. The item gives a privately-run charter school, Carmen, a contract for 15 years to have 200 seats in Pulaski High School. Pulaski is a public high school and we refuse to allow it to be taken over by a non-instrumentality charter school. Non-instrumentality charters schools do not have to hire certified educators or honor I.E.P.s and are beyond the direct control of our elected School Board.

URGENT: Call MDOC Director to Urge Rev. Pinkney’s Safe Return Down State

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6am, without notice to him or his family, political prisoner Rev. Edward Pinkney was transferred from Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater, MI, to Kinross C.F. in the Upper Peninsula. The next day he was transferred to Marquette Branch Prison in Marquette, MI–nearly 500 miles from his wife and supporters in southern MI.

Call Michigan Department of Corrections Director Heidi Washington to express your concern about Rev. Pinkney’s safety and to urge his return down state. Here’s a script you can use or adapt:

“My name is _______ and I’m calling from __________. I’m calling about Rev. Edward Pinkney, ID #294671. On Tuesday he was suddenly transferred from the Lakeland facility to Marquette, 500 miles from his family. I am concerned about the Reverend’s health and welfare. He needs to be brought back down state where his wife and attorney will be able to visit him while his appeal continues.”

Please sign a petition to save the life of Mumia Abu-Jamal & 10,000 other Pennsylvania prisoners suffering from hepatitis C!

Send messages to the Pennsylvania Governor, Secretary of Health and Secretary of Corrections demanding Pennsylvania policy makers allow political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal and an estimated ten thousand other prisoners in PA infected with hepatitis C to receive proper health care, including treatment with a new direct-acting, anti-viral medication which has a 95 percent cure rate.

Amnesty International and other human rights organizations say Abu-Jamal was unfairly convicted in the 1981 killing of a Philadelphia policeman.  A solidarity movement won his removal from death row, but he is still in prison and will die of medical neglect from untreated hepatitis C unless state officials are forced to give him proper treatment.  Furthermore, as an innocent man, he should be released from incarceration.

The PA Department of Corrections currently has no standard procedure for treating prisoners with this disease which, if left untreated, can lead to diabetes, heart disease, liver failure and even death.

Untreated Hep C in the state’s prisons is spread to the broader population outside when prisoners return home. Called a “silent epidemic”, hepatitis C has a disproportionate impact on impoverished communities and people of color, and increases public health care costs.

A protocol for treating prisoners suffering from hepatitis C is reportedly being hammered out by officials from the PA Dept of Corrections and the PA Dept of Health.  Doctors, nurses and other health care providers have urged officials to treat HCV-infected prisoners with the new effective cure.

Now – as officials are considering how prisoners with hep C will be treated – is the time to raise our voices!   PLEASE SIGN NOW.

They will talk about who Roy Bryant, Christopher Manney, and Robert Bates are. They are all white men who have killed unarmed black men. No to two tier. No to three, four many tiers for Mopar, axle, temporary workers, new hires…this must stop! Wage parity now!

No to AWS. No to the new attendance/tardy procedure. No to a questionable healthcare co-op with no guarantee that our benefits won’t be changed. No to trades consolidation. No to raises that don’t keep up with inflation, COLA eliminated and bonuses that we might or might not get. No to freezing pensions four more years.

No to moving work around and cutting jobs. If we lose car production we lose jobs, plain and simple. This musical chairs game they are talking about involves retooling to be even more productive so that fewer workers will be needed for the next generation of vehicles. Our job and income security language was gutted in 2007 and 2009. Put it in writing: our jobs stay.

And no to more super-exploitation of workers in Mexico—or elsewhere. That’s another tier.
If we don’t get justice we will keep voting no! We aren’t being stirred up by outsiders. We are intelligent workers and we are more than ready to walk the picket for a just contract.
