Young, Gifted & Black Coalition: When Indictment Decision Comes Down Regarding Tony Robinson Rally in Madison

Call for National Action

On March 6th Tony Robinson, a 19-year old unarmed Black youth, was killed by white police officer Matt Kenny. Kenny shot Robinson at least five times in the chest and head. After reviewing the Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI’s) report, Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne will decide whether to indict Officer Kenny. Young Gifted and Black (YGB) calls for solidarity actions across the country the day of, or the day following, the results of the DA’s decision.  Please register your action here.
We will also be calling for supporters to come to Madison once the decision is made. RSVP to fergusontomadison@gmail.com if you would like to be notified of the date of the caravan to Madison.

YGB has held weekly actions since the day following the non-indictment of Darren Wilson to push our community and elected officials to address state violence against Black people in Madison and Dane County.  For more information on YGB visit our website.

Tony’s killing came a few months after YGB began demonstrating. His death is tragic but unsurprising. It bears too much in common with the deaths of Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Aiyana Jones, Eric Garner, Tanisha Anderson, Akai Gurley, Tarika Wilson, Tamir Rice and all of the other Black people who are killed every 28 hours by law enforcement, security officials or vigilantes.

In the overwhelming majority of these cases, charges were not brought on the police officers involved in these killings, and we therefore do not expect justice for Tony Robinson to come from the system that killed him. We are calling on you to help bring him justice in the streets and in long-term changes in your communities across the country.

Furthermore, because of the failures at all levels of government to bring about justice, we are also calling on the United Nations to do a thorough investigation into the killing of Tony Robinson as well as the ongoing persistent racial disparities in Madison and Dane County.  Please click here to sign the petition.
