On August 9, 2014 a Ferguson police officer racially profiled and fatally shot unarmed, Black, 18-year-old, Michael Brown as he walked to his grandmother’s residence with a friend. Eye witnesses report that the police officer, who has yet to be identified, fired several shots at Michael as the teen stood in the street with his hands in the air. The family and local community members are calling his death an execution.

Enough is enough. This tragic police killing is representative of the systemic police abuse affecting Black communities in Ferguson, Missouri, and across the country. Last year, Black Missouri residents were 66% more likely to be stopped by police, and more likely to be arrested, even though white residents were more likely to be found with contraband.

Racially-motivated police violence has no place in law enforcement. Join us in demanding a rigorous investigation, prosecution, and firing of all officers involved in this tragic police killing.

Community members from across Milwaukee and beyond participated in an August 14 vigil in Dineen park protesting the police murder of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. Participants at the vigil, part of a nationwide initiative, also spoke out against numerous instances of police brutality and murder in the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The entire global collective of Anonymous is outraged at this cold blooded murder of a young teen. Not a week goes by that some young person, usually of minority ethnicity – is slaughtered by murderous police in the USA…

The time has come for more than simple justice for these atrocities. The time has come to draw a line in the sand and say “no more dead kids”, no more police killings and beatings. Anonymous is drawing a line in the sand, and that line runs right down the middle of Main Street Ferguson, Missouri. Police impunity ends with the barbaric death of Mike Brown.

Dear National Network On Cuba Friends, 

On September 21, 2014 the “People’s Climate March” will take place in New York City.   The organizers of the action are planning for the largest climate march in history; what they call “unprecedented climate mobilization – in size, beauty, and impact. Our demand is a world we know is within our reach: a world with an economy that works for people and the planet.”

The National Network on Cuba, an organization which defends Cuban sovereignty and is aware of Cuba’s achievements in the areas of environment, community, health, and quality of life, enthusiastically endorses these actions.  Cuba has been a leader not only in sustainability issues, but also in making the connections between poverty, exploitation of people and resources, environmental racism, war, and corporate greed.  Cuba is recognized by experts and organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund which found that Cuba was “the only country in the world with sustainable development.”  Cuba has not only rejected the capitalist economic model, it has also embraced environmental sustainability.

We would like to use the opportunities presented by the People’s Climate March to make Cuba’s leadership in this area known and to include the issue of the Cuban 5 in the actions.  The forces in the United States that fail to recognize Cuba’s impressive gains in sustainable development are the same forces that are responsible for the unfair arrests and unjust convictions of the Five Cuban anti-terrorist heroes.
