Rally @ Flagstar’s Dearborn Heights (MI) Branch
Saturday, June 16, 11 am – Noon
26545 Ford Rd. (Half mile east of Inkster Rd.)
Call Flagstar Bank, 248-312-2000.
Flagstar claims to be a “community” bank and a Michigan company, but it is actually owned by MatlinPatterson Global Advisors, a New York equity firm that Forbes Magazine recently described as a leading “Vulture Investor,” known for “picking the bones of crumbling companies.”
Jennifer Britt knows what that means. Since her husband died in 2006, she has paid more than $40,000 to Flagstar to save her family’s home in Detroit’s Rosedale Park. She lost her job in 2008 but continued paying rising monthly payments that took her entire savings. Flagstar foreclosed in 2010 and sold the mortgage to Fannie Mae. Eviction is imminent.
Jennifer now has a job and could make reasonable mortgage payments if Flagstar and Fannie Mae agreed to work with her. State and federal programs call for mortgage modifications to keep people in their homes. There is no good reason why Jennifer and her family should be evicted, leaving another vacant house in Detroit.
Flagstar is the Deadbeat, not Jennifer. The bank was assessed $133 million in fines by the federal government this year for fraudulent loan practices stretching back over a decade. Flagstar has yet to pay taxpayers back for the $267 million bailout it took in 2009.
Call Flagstar Bank, 248-312-2000. Tell Joseph Campanelli, CEO, to help Jennifer Britt and her family keep their home. The bank held the mortgage from 1999 thru the sheriff’s foreclosure auction. “Nationstar Mortgage” or some other related entity may have briefly serviced the loan before Fannie Mae compensated the bank with taxpayer money. Flagstar can take back the mortgage from Fannie Mae and modify the loan. Other banks have done the same after public protest.

Stop Foreclosures & Evictions, Moratorium NOW Milwaukee Meeting June 23
MILWAUKEE – A Stop Foreclosures and Evictions, Moratorium NOW! public meeting will be held at the Amalgamated Transit Union hall, 734 N. 26th Street, Milwaukee on Saturday, June 23 beginning at 1 p.m. The event, sponsored by the Wisconsin Bail Out The People Movement, is free and open to the public.
“Wisconsin, as in many other states, is suffering the worst housing crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930’s. The banks-through illegal foreclosures and evictions-are destroying poor and working people’s neighborhoods and communities throughout Wisconsin and nationwide with the worst bankers crimes in African American and Latino communities. We need an immediate moratorium on foreclosures and evictions to save our communities,” said Bryan G. Pfeifer, of the Wisconsin Bail Out The People Movement (wibailoutpeople.org).
Participants on June 23, will explain homeowners’ rights in the foreclosure process, give practical tips for confronting the banks and managing foreclosures and explain the demand for a moratorium on foreclosures and evictions. Families or individuals who are facing foreclosure and/or eviction are invited to share their stories.
Members of the Moratorium Now! Coalition from Detroit will participate June 23 (moratorium-mi.org). Members of this leading national anti-foreclosure organization will describe the moratorium demand which is adopted from the 1930’s when 27 states, including Wisconsin, had moratoriums on foreclosures. Those from Detroit will also describe how the banks have decimated this majority African American city, how they have stopped bank foreclosures and have kept poor and working people in their homes with labor, community, student and faith-based direct action and legal support.
According to a June 4, 2012 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article, foreclosures in southeastern Wisconsin spiked 27.5 percent in May. Since 2007 there have been 20,000 foreclosures in Milwaukee, most in the central city (realtytrac.com). Tens of thousands more statewide are facing foreclosure and are being evicted when landlords fail to tell tenants the home they reside in is in foreclosure. With the union-busting bill Act 10 and ongoing austerity measures in the state, thousands more are in peril of becoming homeless-unless a moratorium is enacted.
The nationwide movement to stop foreclosures and evictions and the campaign for a moratorium is growing as more homeowners and tenants fight the banks illegal foreclosures. Organizations such as Occupy Our Homes are forming (occupyourhomes.org). A campaign for a 3 year federal moratorium is also underway: nationalmoratorium.org.

Supporters held a vigil in solidarity with Bradley Manning’s June 6-8 motion hearing. Nathan Fuller reports back from the court room, and PFC Bradley Manning’s attorney, David Coombs, sends a message of gratitude to supporters, thanking them for all the help and support Bradley has received. You can help Bradley in several ways: donate to his defense fund, send a solidarity photo, or attend his next appearance in Ft. Meade, on June 25.

By David Coombs. June 12, 2012:
Over the past two years, thousands of individuals have either donated to the defense fund or given freely of their time to support PFC Bradley Manning. The support provided has come in many forms:
1) Signing petitions (standwithbrad.org);
2) Standing up to say “I am Bradley Manning” (iam.bradleymanning.org);
3) Writing to military/government authorities;
4) Writing letters to the editors of local and national newspapers;
5) Attending marches, rallies, and other public events to raise awareness about Bradley Manning;
6) Using social media to write about the case and the events of every hearing;
7) Contacting government representatives;
8) Sending messages of support to my law office;
9) Donating to the legal defense fund; or
10) Volunteering with the Bradley Manning Support Network and Courage to Resist.
At every court hearing, I am given the opportunity to witness this support first hand. The attendance by supporters during these hearings as been nothing short of inspiring. Although my client is not permitted to engage those in attendance, he aware of your presence and support.
During our latest hearing on 6 – 8 June, I was particularly struck by the warmth of support by those in attendance. At one point during a break, I had causally mentioned that it was my anniversary. Apparently a supporter had overheard this statement, and took up a collection to give flowers, a balloon, and a thoughtful card to me and my wife. This kind gesture is emblematic of the type of people who are supporting Brad.
I would like to publicly thank all those who have supported my client over the past two years. I also want to pass on the following message from Brad: “I am very grateful for your support and humbled by your ongoing efforts.” Brad also asked me to specifically thank on his behalf the unflinching support of Courage to Resist and the Bradley Manning Support Network.
What happens in this court-martial is of vital importance to all of us. With your continued support, we will ensure that justice is achieved for Brad.

As you may know, there are still 8 people being held on serious felony charges. These include the NATO 5, all with terrorism charges under an Illinois law. Their defense is being organized by Occupy Chicago. Please go to the Occupy Chicago web site for more information on the defense: www.Occupychi.org.
Please call States Attorney Anita Alvarez at 773-674-6209 and demand that all charges be dropped against the anti-NATO/G8 protesters.

Colleen Mckee Espinosa is a registered nurse and a single mother of three who has owned her home for 16 years. Last year, she attempted to pay her Citibank mortgage to catch up on two past-due payments on the indicated due date. The bank told her the home had already been sent into foreclosure.
Colleen and family have lived in their Northeast Minneapolis home for 16 years, and although they only had six years left to pay off our home, the bank has been unwilling to modify her mortgage so that they can stay in our community.
Colleen has worked as a registered nurse for over 25 years, serving and caring for others, and now she needs our support.
“I have decided that I’m not leaving my home until we get a good faith negotiation. I’m fighting to send the message to other people not to give up, because if you’re isolated you can’t fight these people. Said Colleen. “I’d tell the banks they better watch out because people are catching on to their game and a lot of people are going to fight back now.”
